Former Michigan Players in the NCAA

Been discussed a bit already, but just came across the impressive highlights of Tre scoring 32 points (including the final 15) for Miami in a mini-comeback win against VT a few days ago.

He’s been the engine for Miami all season and is playing 35+ minutes consistently.

Pretty wild how none of those former guys can hit threes this season. Many were not expected to be good shooters, but none have done well. Good for Pippen and some of the guys to land major roles.

Wild how that portal maniac Dusty gave up his starting PG and let him start at Miami so he could take a UNC castoff. And how he let a young prospect like Pippen leave to start at a P4 program while keeping Cason after an up and down year. He had to settle for a bench guy who couldn’t play more than 15 minutes, a guy who was inconsistent at Illinois. (Sarcasm)

Given the recent news that Frankie Collins is no longer on the Vanderbilt roster I thought it would be of interest to update the status of our former players still in the NCAA:

Tarris Reed (UConn)

Tarris Reed remains a standout for UCONN. Has played in 25 of their 30 games averaging 26 minutes per game and 14 points, 8 rebounds. 45% fgs. 55% FT 0 for 3 on 3 point shots.

Frankie Collins (Vanderbilt)

Played in about 10 games before what was feared to be a season ending injury. Later clarified to be a non-season ending injury and was cleared medically to play by the end of January. Now has mysteriously left the team with no explanation by Vanderbilt or Frankie although Frankie did tweet this:

why? so yall can’t point the finger? It’s okay man. Just let everyone keep throwing my name in the dirt it’s okay. I’ll take all the blame for the whole situation. I won’t have any comments towards it.

Tre Donaldson (Miami)

Leads the team in minutes per game at 34. Ave 17 points, 6 assists, 2.1 turnovers. 77% FT, 34% 3-point

Terrance Williams II (USC)

Has played in 28 of 29 games ave 14 minutes. 2.4 ppg, 2.1 rebounds. 30% 3 point percentage

Dug McDaniel (Memphis)

Justin Pippen (Cal)

Has played in 27 of 29 games and is third in minutes at 31.1 per game. 15ppg, 4.1 assists/game. 34% from 3

Phat Phat Brooks (CMU)

Has played in all 30 games averaging 28 minutes and 11 points. 4 assists per game and only 18% from 3

Isaiah Barnes (Valparaiso)

Chance that he plays for 3 coaches in 4 years and all of them are fired by the end of his career? Impressive.
