I am sure there is a ton of disappointment over not getting the job. Additionally, for how abruptly JB’s departure made us feel, imagine being the assistant coaches. 2 weeks ago, Yaklich was a top assistant for JB and about to land Franz and Cumberland. Then JB leaves, coaching search, you don’t get the job and now you have to move your family to Austin. That is a lot and stresses the family. I believe Yak is gone and if so, I wish him and his family nothing but the best. The tough life of an assistant coach.
I don’t think we need to be divining the opinions of the Yaklich family by stalking their twitter activity guys.
Also “likes” aren’t exactly deep insight into thought process.
" But Howard is different. While Hardaway and Ewing are great fits at their schools, neither was considered much of a prospect for other coaching jobs—Hardaway had only coached at the high school level before landing the Memphis job, and Ewing spent more than a decade as an NBA assistant without sparking much interest for a head job. Howard, meanwhile, has been highly sought after for NBA coaching vacancies. He’d been an assistant for the Miami Heat since he ended his 19-year NBA career in 2013—and if we’re being honest, he was already basically an assistant during the last few years he spent with the team, wearing suits and providing veteran wisdom to LeBron James during a pair of championship runs. In the past few months, Howard interviewed with the Lakers, Timberwolves, and Cavaliers for their head coaching openings. It was going to be a matter of time before he’d land a top job somewhere."
He was never offered the job.
That’s not how those buyouts typically work. At the most, his new salary would be deducted dollar for dollar from his buyout. That’s not a great deal for either side so the trend now is to deduct $1 of buyout for every $2 of salary. You also see coaches negotiate a smaller guaranteed amount before taking a new job.
If Wilson is gone, and no Franz. Livers starts at 3, Johns at 4. The choice is between CC playing some backup 4, or Nunez, Eli, Bajema (if sticks), Baird, play significant minutes at 3. Even if Wilson recommit, we are one injury away from going back to the same situation.
Sorry, don’t know whether that was impossible to divine from the way it was set forth here or I was being obtuse. It wasn’t until I checked into the thread about Wright’s podcast at mgoetcetera that I understood. Perils of social media. I wish the Yakliches nothing but the best.
Sometimes not tweeting (or liking) is the more prudent course.
He was a huge reach for the HC job. He should man up and stick around.
Yes, or do whatever is best for him, but if what is best for him is to stick around, then I would expect he wouldn’t let his ego get in the way. Especially since landing the job was a reach.
Just a thought Juwan Howard has recruiting experience in fact he assembled the best college team ever in my opinion called the Fab Five. I had unexpected excitement while Beilein was there but his teams lived and died by the three ball until defense suddenly became of the utmost importance almost forgetting his unique offensive end of the court. It appeared by the end of Beilein’s tenure he transitioned to the opposite than what was in his beginning. I started hearing all the praise for his assistants instead of this is a trait in my program. Michigan changed Beilein as I am sure it will change Howard with Howard (Born Feb 7th 1973) being 20 years younger almost to the day than Beilein (Born Feb 5th 1953) I assume he will adapt to the landscape even sooner than Beilein did.
Good points but the game today is the three ball! Every team will live and die by it. No team will be successful throwing the ball into the post or driving the lane as the featured offense. I think the evolution of the game changed with Beilein more the Michigan changing Beilein.
Amazing that Twitter handle was still available.
Annnnd Amy Yaklich is already following. Could be nothing or could be something
Miami has analytics guys on staff so Juwan should be famliar with using them. He should be up to date with how the NBA game has changed.
Amy Yaklich seems living on social media these days
I presume it wasn’t and they bought it from the previous owner.
