From my understanding it isn’t that difficult to be nominated, considering there are 492 total nominees on the boys’ side. Obviously, you have to be a decent player but the player’s coach has to go through a nomination process.
Not being from the state of Michigan, and not completely knowing, I have to think some of the guys nominated in Michigan aren’t D1 players.
Can only speak from the girls side, as 2 of the 3 players nominated play for the same AAU program as my daughter…but it appears you need to be at least approaching D1 material to be nominated, as the 2 girls from my daughter’s AAU program are high major D1 talents (although 1 is committed to a mid-major, the other to a B10 school). I’ve seen the remaining female nominee play several times, and she is certainly high major D1 material (currently committed to a B10 school).
