Still should be fine imo, and duh

The alternative would have been the truth - that Gio blew like 3 curfews and dogged it in practice. So which would you prefer?

It’s not popular but I think Dest isn’t good, the fact that he was the 1 A-Teamer who made it back to play a friendly for us when his club team played a cup game should encapsulate where his star is. I don’t think he’s a big loss.

Wes isn’t fit and is alarmingly chubby but we don’t have a good replacement for him

We do, he’s just injured right now (Adams)

They’re pretty different players, I don’t think one replaces the other really

I’d think Both are in the best 11

Also that Run Dest has to set up the third goal was sublime. He played a great game tonight until the rush of blood to the head.

Dest has been in disastrous club form, but I think he plays his role very well for the USMNT. Was very good last night.

He definitely has moments of brilliance going forward

He’s really sloppy and sort of disastrous as a defender

I think Antonee is considerably more solid on the other side

I think the US needs the creativity that Dest can add going forward. Most club teams don’t need that from that position with his defensive limitations.

I’m surprised Aaronsen is out of the conversation for the front 6 too. We have lots of potential in that grouping

But there’s no away Adams isn’t one of them, he’s a human eraser. He’s not sexy, but he’s absolutely vital

GGG could say literally any coach speak that conveys the message. “We were trying to get him out there but we didn’t. That’s something I will have to look at later…” There are tons of examples of blanket statements that I would choose for the coach to say.

Instead, he said he was injured. Gio came out immediately after the game and said he wad 100% and not injured, and now you got a story that didn’t need to happen in that way.

That’s fine

There’s lots to bag on Gregg for and Inwont defend him from most of it, but not going public with the fact Gio was too busy sight seeing to play games is something any coach would do

His specific lie was tactless but any coach lies about that

Adams is the captain and No. 6. He’ll play whenever he’s fit. Is someone saying he shouldn’t play?

I thought the “front six” you quoted above didn’t include him?

Since we play 4 defenseman, isn’t he in the front 6 or am I missing it

Oh, yeah I think that was just a typo. Didn’t see that his name wasn’t in there. He’s basically non-negotiable in any lineup.

I still think they go with the MMA (Musah, Wes and Adams) in most big games in the midfield. Musah’s development is perhaps most interesting to track at this point.

I sort of think Musah will end up being their best of player…at least he has a shot. I tihnk the world is higher on Weah than I am.

Sounds like Musah could be on the way to West Ham to replace Rice.

Get the stocks on Balo early, he’s going to be our best player when he figures out where to be. Could’ve had an easy one last night if Puli hadn’t tried to go Captain America and then sail the open net.

dylan are you saying fans are overrating the guys on the bench rather than accepting that actually there isn’t enough talent at the position, and that the issue is far more structural than a few substitution decisions here and there? that sounds bizarre, can’t imagine what that’s like

I hear that, but think he’s still clearly the best we have rn at that position. His run yesterday for the Pepi goal was spectacular. His technical quality is near the top of the roster.

Good stuff above, and I’m late but …

  • Hiring GGG when Reyna is probably no worse than Top 3rd of starting 11 is pretty tricky. GGG doesn’t seem to offer special coaching qualities but his history as USMNT is special. To me it is a tough call and when it’s that close, I’d normally agree w the decision but since it’s a decision made by USA soccer it is most likely not correct.

  • Dest’s technical skill is irreplaceable in USA starting 11, especially against CONCACAF teams that are going to play in the bunker, but it is fair to wonder if Dest makes sense against England or similar. In which case, should you just play Guatemala w/ the same approach/starting 11 as you would against England? Normally, I would argue ‘no’, you have to play Dest against Guatemala. But given autobid to WC … that may not be true over the next three years.
