I’m fully in the camp that it was the right move to bring Gregggg back. He gets so much undeserved cr*p from the type of people who legitimately think Pep is gonna come when he leaves City in 2 years.
Keeping Gregg obviously paves the way for hiring Pep in two years, though.
Pep to USMNT, Arteta to City, me at the bottom of Lake Erie
Do you think Gregg handled the whole situation appropriately?
In all seriousness, I would be fascinated to see Pep manage a national team. Sounds like he’s going to coach out his contract at City though, which takes him to 2025. Probably too late for a WC hire? But who knows.
Definitely. Idk enough about the guy to know if he’d be up for a “challenge” (like USMNT) or a team with more talent that needs some direction (Germany, Italy, Spain). Also, wonder if he knows what the US budget is for a manager .
I have a hunch Pep would want to take on Brazil and win one. I’d be freaking shocked if he ever got near the USMNT job unless Messi tells him how awesome living in Miami is or he has the morbid curiosity on what it’s like playing Guatemala away during monsoon season.
There were calls of “why is Gio not playing?! We need to know” coming during the World Cup. And then when we got the actual answer those same people were saying “why would you let that out in public?!”
Spain or England, I could probably see if it were a big-time job in Europe. Can’t see Germany hiring someone who is not German.
I could see Brazil or a South American country for sure.
I was joking about him coaching the USMNT, btw, I do think he’ll coach a national team though and it’ll be a fun project to follow.
On the Reyna thing, who sits if Tyler Adams was healthy last night?
I really liked how he played centrally though.
Probably Gio. Push Musah up.
Would be a nice problem to have right now with McKennie out Sunday.
Interesting question. I really like Wes and Musah but obviously Adams is going to start. I personally think Gio provides an attacking dimension and can unlock plays in a way we don’t currently have, and if he’s healthy, I don’t see how he sits.
I’d have to think more on it.
Mhm.
That’s why Reyna usually ends up playing wide, and maybe he plays in Weah’s spot but Weah has been so good in that role for the US IMO.
I’m not saying there weren’t other ways to handle it and maybe some of them would have turned out better. In hindsight it is easy to he shoulda / coulda / etc. No one came out looking good after that.
Careful tho, you get attacked nowadays for saying anything about Gio other than he’s the second coming of Pele. But i agree it would be him.
Saw someone saying go 3-4-3 and start all of Adams Gio Musah Wes and just figure it out
My last comment on GGG/Reyna.

I’m not faulting too much a 20 year old for being upset about not playing much in the WC. He was wrong in his “tantrums” and later apologized for it on IG. Normal reaction for basically a teenager. That would be an incredibly frustrating/humbling thing for a kid with his accolades. Learn from it and move on.

The parent Reyna’s are terrible in every regard. No excuse for that behavior.

GGG is a clown, too. From an ESPN article about the conference after the cup:
“The irony here is that in trying to provide an example of his own leadership to a room full of mostly strangers, Berhalter made a massive leadership error in sharing what should have remained an in-house issue. Even though Berhalter didn’t use Gio’s name and was under the impression the comments wouldn’t be published, he had nothing substantive to gain from making them.”
All in all, I hope fences are mended and everyone can move on because I think Gio is an integral part of the team moving forward. Not his fault his parents suck.
Could buy into this, but Weston gives you some different stuff (set pieces, etc.)
WTF was with Turner almost going full Ederson a few times last night? Back there playing tiki taka with himself while getting closed down, was like get rid of it already Matthew. That’s not your game bub.
how are we looking against Canada after those red cards? and should I be mad if we lose?
Scally in for Dest, LDLT in for Wes.
Should be alright, Davies and David are a handful, but Canada didn’t look particularly great yesterday. I think we should be fine.
