I don’t know
Watching Chelsea eat sh*t with that payroll was one my favorite things in sport this year

They are having a fire sale currently to get back on FFP. Begging the Saudis to take Havertz (who will probs end up Arsenal anyway), Koulibaly, Mendy and others.
I’ll also recco Dortmund
Some recognizable stars, Gio is there, but firmly in the second tier of Bundesliga (Munich is a one team tier 1) so when they do well it doesn’t feel like rooting for the bank
I end up flipping the Bundesliga on a decent amount before CFB games start and I usually enjoy the product. At some point it had a rep of being a high scoring, high pace league, no clue if that’s still true. If you have the Disney bundle, it’s a nice lil freebie. Dortmund def the team I vaguely root for.
I guess this sort of belongs here, but sure seems like USMNT Twitter has some truly deranged reply guys compared to other corners of the internet I find myself in. Not sure what’s up w that. One of the things I always liked about following soccer in the US was the vibes were usually pretty good. All the real maniacs followed other sports.
Wonder if we’ve finally reached a level of hype w this generation of talent that’s bringing on new fans that aren’t really sure how it all works.
And they have this idea we have a team of stars comparable to England
And not a team of fringy guys
Yeah I figured that we were starting something like a bottom table EPL team in the WC? Maybe only Championship? Loooot of countries can top that, let alone England. Nothing wrong w being 20th in the world hoping you can get to 10th.
Yeah, we just saw a team with 3 USMNT starters and a fourth who is on the fringe of starting for them get relegated
That says…something?
you just saw the Gregg Hitler photo didn’t you
Dortmund actually finished tied for Bayern in points this year but lost the title due to goal difference. They were alone in first heading into the last day, only to draw with a terrible team at home. They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Yeah, they compete solidly but Munich wins the league like 85% of the time
Among other things but lol yeah I did
My son is a huge Liverpool fan since we hosted a visiting soccer coach from the UK who rooted for them. I tried to become a Chelsea fan when Pulisic had a pretty good debut for them. Now I am more agnostic.
Of the big clubs I like Klopp’s playing style the best - last year when they still had Mané they were a ton of fun to watch, and Saleh is still electric.
Puma’s have been my favorite kind of shoes for about 20 years. Still, I’m not loving that jersey. Teal lightning bolts?
The away for next year isn’t much better.
Unless you want to catch a quick set of tennis after the match.
Puma just does too much, it’s fine without the wonky grey design in the background, but NOOOO. They have to put random rectangles and triangles and shades everywhere because Puma has gone full Euro dance club the past 2 years. Also a collar AND a forced vneck. Get out.
But then you see Arsenal’s away for next year and you are reminded it could always be worse.
So, I think the nominations so far are:
Wolves (Is that Wolverhampton?)
Madrid (Real Madrid?)
Man City
Sunderland
Leeds
Brighton
Fulham
Arsenal
Dortmund
My loose criteria is:
On tv a fair bit
No a-hole owners (and though I used to think Ryan Reynolds was an awful actor, I’ve warmed up to him in the last 10 years. I liked Deadpool. I’m thinking of the more morally corrupt kinds of a-holes)
no ugly kits
probably not a championship level team, at the moment
a passionate but not criminal fanbase
That’s all I can think of, at the moment.
I’m a Wolves fan
Don’t choose wolves trust me
Based purely on my own kinks, if I were starting fresh I’d choose Brighton - pleasing play style, well run, good team, underdog narrative, will get you European soccer this year
But they are never going to win the league, they don’t have the pockets
Leeds just got relegated somId avoid them
Another fun one could be Everton - old powerhouse at the very bottom now (two years of just avoiding relegation), a ton of incentive to fix themselves and if they do, they’ll be good…a true buy low
Arsenal may have just been eliminated from consideration. That’s a shame because, for a while, my softball team in LA would post-game at a bar called The Arsenal.
Why not? Are they like rooting for the Detroit Lions?
