Don’t know much about Austin. Would we take two similar SGs in the same class? Is his game notably different from McQuaid?

Austin is a comboguard and McQuaid is a wing. Are any of our players on the perimeter really different? I think as long as you can shoot, pass and dribble then you fit our system.
Article on Scout says he has been watching Michigan and Florida a lot lately and would like to hear from them.

Then it does sound like we could take both. Not to mention that SG is a need in 2015 in general.

Wow. A kid asking us to recruit him? I really hope we pursue this…

It’s always nice to start from a good position.
In my opinion here is a rough comparison between Grandstaff & McQuaid:
Grandstaff - much better ball handler in relation to McQuaid, better footwork/change of direction, not as athletic as McQuaid in terms of jumping ability, not overly quick, but does have good footwork. Jumpshot looks good, but fades slightly to the left, needs to keep body balanced/stationary upon release. Strictly a 2 in my opinion
McQuaid - not a very polished ball handler, doesn’t change direction very well, decent athletic ability in terms of jumping, very nice jumpshot with good mechanics. Has the ability to play the 2 or 3. More upside in terms of raw athleticism/size than Grandstaff, not as skilled (other than shooting) at this point.
Guess it depends if we’re looking for strictly a 2 or a 2/3 combo. I think Grandstaff is the more agressive/polished player at this point, with McQuaid having more length/better jumpshot/upside in the long run. Grandstaff strikes me as a high basement/low ceiling type of player, while McQuaid strikes me as a low basement/high ceiling type of player
We’re going to have anywhere from 2 (if no one leave early) - 5 (If Mitch, Nik, Caris, Glenn) scholarships in 2015, assuming we take no one in the spring 2014. I’d think we could take both of Grandstaff and McQuaid.
I think they are too similar, would like a more dynamic to the basket guy as the second wing. Now if it is a package with Elijah Thomas then that is good.

We should have 3 scholarships for wings and guards plus one bigman
Really like Grandstaff. Scorer. Appears to be a right handed Kennard.
Grandstaff avgs 30.
Mcquaid avgs 13.
Grandstaff is nowhere near the shooter Luke is, nor is he as athletic.
Grandstaff looks like he has a ton of growing to do physically where as Kennard looks like a finished product.
Kennard is an elite shooter but his form isn’t the best, either.
Grandstaff/McQuaid/Coleman or Davis/Ellenson or Boudreaux is a perfect class imo
Unless of course we want to get in on Antonio Blakeney, Haanif Cheanam, Justin Simons or continue recruiting Perry Dozier lol
guestavo, didn’t you essentially say Boudreaux is a waste of a scholarship?
That’s when I assumed Beilein thought Donnal was a stretch 4. Seems like we’re rolling with Donnal/Doyle as our centers and need some depth behind Wilson.
So do you agree that Boudreax has the potential to be a protypical “Stretch 4”? Good size, can shoot, and is a high effort guy… The team could have used someone like that tonight.
Ehhh he can be a nice backup. We aren’t a blueblood so we have to take specialist.

No thanks, he’s a tweener with a decent jump shot. Basically Bielfeldt with a jump shot. Not athletic enough in my opinion
The rich get richer while we have to settle with guys who have obvious holes in their game
Winning cures all, keep winning consistently and we will eventually garner more attention from elite athletes. I think we downplay the fact that Coach B severely restricts the pool we can choose from if we’re being realistic about it. If a prospect can’t shoot from deep, Beilien simply doesn’t want them. More athletes, less tweeners please.
