Eating Crow: Revisited

I think a BIG problem with a decent portion of our fanbase is the constant inclination to compare JB relevant to history/Amaker…I mean, if you set the standard like that, than your standards are going to be low and will always be mediocre. Duke was trash before K, MSU dwindled in mediocrity prior to Izzo, hell look at Oregon.

How the hell is Oregon a better basketball program than UM? That should NEVER happen.

Conference championships don’t mean much to be honest. If you ask any recruit who won the B10 championship 3-4 years ago I doubt any of them could tell you that. What you do in March is what matters.

I’ve said nothing at all about him being fired. BUT, things are tending down and looking at our roster and who we are bringing in, doesn’t look so bright in my eyes. So unles these guys are hidden gems, 2020 might not come for beilein being at Michigan. Things need to change of the recruiting end. More talent on the team cures all.

We don’t need Izzo…just need JB to hold players accountable and recruit some legit talent, and hire a defensive assistant. In other words, we just need to move in a different direction if we don’t improve next year.

Expectations were raised when beilein got paid like a top 10 coach in the country. Now that we aren’t getting top 10 results, things need to be addressed.

So I guess then they’d remember our championship game appearance and the elite 8 last second loss to Kentucky? I agree that our recruiting is in a down cycle and is very frustrating. But why can’t we acknowledge how successful we have been? Or is it all about trying to map out the next year or two or three?

Looking back 2-3 years is ok bit looking ahead 2-3 years isn’t? Come on man

According to the research reflected above, we haven’t been very successful. Although we had a great 2 year run, We are a perennial bubble team under JB under the average and median numbers. We are a good offensive team, and a bad defensive team…these things also appear to be getting worse by the year.

I hear you. Of course we can guess about the future. But I do think that if you are assessing someone’s job you have to look at what has happened, not what you think will happen, ultimately.

What did a Sugar Bowl victory do for Hoke? Not much, he was canned when it became obvious that the future was not going to be very good. I don’t know what happens next year, but I do know that I don’t feel very confident.

And if you assess what has happened, you will see a very inconsistent coach that is on average, a bubble team coach. If you’re ok with that, then I guess you keep JB, if not then its time to move on.

Let’s just hope this summer does wonders for our juniors to be. I need sleep, now everyone say your prayers that we actually play hard the whole game tomorrow.

I would just disagree that it isn’t obvious yet. Especially when he is probably the best coach in program history and is going to pass 500 wins next year, putting him in a fraternity of coaches that numbers only around 60.

I would still like to hear what names (other than Smart who just signed on at Texas and is off the market) people are thinking of. Also, what are the other programs that have the standard we should also be held to. I am not saying I am not dying for the program to rise. But what is the paradigm for you guys? (other than the Lakers)

For me personally, don’t understand why we can’t compete on the same level as Ohio State on average…just makes no sense to me.

I believe that Beilein will coach UM to the end of his current contract or beyond unless he decides to leave. Everyone was pretty happy two years ago, now after two years of early departures and injuries, some are all up in arms. Do we need to improve in some areas, sure. But, we are always going to have that. I think the program is in good hands with John Beilein.

You really think their best players under Matta (Oden, Conley, Sullinger) are guys we can recruit? No chance. He’s a good coach, though.

Oregon? I love it when people use gross exaggeration in their arguments. Let me know when Oregon makes a title game, or an Elite Eight, or puts some guys in the NBA. They’re having a good year, that’s really about it.

Kruger is about to make his 4th straight NCAA tournament appearance at Oklahoma. Beilein right now has made 5 NCAA tournaments and if they don’t make this year it will be 5 in 9.

Kruger 4 appearances in 5 years at Oklahoma
Beilein 5 appearances in 9 years at Michigan

Kruger is doing a better job.

Again, we made the title game and the Elite Eight. When Oklahoma does one of those things, let me know.

Again, they are about to miss the tournament for 2 straight years. When Kruger does that at Oklahoma let me know.
