Eating Crow: Revisited

I don’t think he should be fired at all. Unless we miss the tourney this year and next should it even be in question. But it’s very possible, looking down the road, that the roster we have next year and 17 that we could miss it 4 years straight. That is not ok.

So, in other words, you’re ok with being mediocre because we’re historically mediocre…ok, that makes sense. What ever happened to wanting more, greed, hunger…I just don’t get this passive train of thought, its just so foreign to me.

Like you said, all they talk about is how Michigan has been Mediocro for years. Why does it have to continue to be that way? The university cleaely is expecting more considering all the money they gave beilein to come be the coach here. I love beilein, but the recruiting needs a makeover and I hope It happens sooner than later before it’s too late. We go after 250 rated players like its our only hope. I don’t get it.

There are 351 NCAA Division 1 basketball coaches. How many win every year. Maybe 10 or so? Bad years happen. Two in a row happens to good coaches sometimes also.

That’s fine, but when it appears to be getting worse by the year…well, that’s a HUGE problem. There is no remedy in sight.

How many good years have we had since beilein has been here? Not average, but good years.

I don’t want to be mediocre. But mediocre years happen. Reality happens. I think every fan wants more. But by your way of thinking, which fan base has what you are looking for outside the top 5 or 6 schools (blue bloods) we always throw out as not being what we are trying to emulate anyway?

We are better this year than last year by 5 wins. I agree that if we are 16-16 next year then there is really something wrong. But I guess I just feel it is too early to get down on the program and the leadership.

Mediocre, and even bad years, happen far too much under John Beilein for my taste. Despite what the record says, we’re actually a worse team this compared to last despite more experience…and that is inexcusable. The sad part is we’re likely to be even worse next year.

I pose this question - if we played last year’s schedule this year, what do you think the record would be. I actually think it would be identical or slightly worse, especially conference record.

Whoa whoa I don’t think we are worse next year. But 10-8 again is a real possibility. Winning big games will be real tough i think. No leadership on this team.

Thanks man. I’m also unsure why I was accused of constructing a straw man? I think OP clearly implies an expectation of sweet 16 or bust, which few coaches and teams achieve. I love desiring that. Based on past results though, Johnny B has elevated the program. IF someone out there can help get us to the next level, tell me the name. Any conversation that allows for Beilein’s dismissal as a possibility requires alternatives.

Where did you cultivate your taste? Which program would satisfy your standard? I am just curious what schools you feel like hold the standard that should be ours also (outside the very top - UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, Arizona, etc.).

From LA, a lifelong Laker fan long before my UM days.

If we next it next year, then the question ought to be raised. But, isn’t it way too sooooon to even start that discussion?

average before he came to Michigan was going to the NIT…

Again, I couldn’t care less about before he got here. We are paying this man top 10 money. How can it be wrong to expect top ten results?

I agree the bar has been raised, but only slightly…but it appears to be on the downslide if we’re being honest.

The recruiting is a big deal, no doubt. I just feel like getting us two conference crowns (when even the fab five didn’t win one) buys him more patience from the fan base.

You guys miss the point. Johnny B is NO Tom Izzo. Sorry. So go find the next Tom Izzo for us and run the hiring campaign.
