I think Miles Bridges is an overpay, but:

Cunningham
Ivey
Bridges
Bey
Duren

Bagley, Stewart, Joseph, Livers, Hayes, Olynyk, Lee, whoever else they sign to fill this out

Actually seems like a team that is approximately on the same timeline (ages 20, 20, 24, 23, 18 with bench guys who are 23, 21, 23, 20, 23 and a few vets), with some positional sense, three guys who I think you could look at to be quality scorers (Cade, Ivey, Bridges), and no absolute 1 way defensive sieves (I don’t know if Duren is a star, but he strikes me as a solid 2-way center when he’s grown up).

I also think the Pistons are a particularly good fit for Ivey - he doesn’t need to be the lead ball-handler and can just go run…and because of Cade, he can guard PGs, which I think he’s a lot more suited to size-wise.

Cade is going to turn Ivey into a star. Imagining him attracting double teams only for him to find Ivey on the cut to the basket…I’m so excited.

All the talk of Ivey needing to be a de facto PG or ball handler never made sense to me. His scouting reports were pretty clearly: 2 guard. Use his handling in transition or after the offense has been initiated.

Also if he is talented and athletic enough then he only needs to make the easy reads when a defense collapses. He doesn’t need to be Steve Nash to be a heckuva player.

Also, having Cade would allow the Pistons to bring Ivey along to develop as a lead guard down the road so they can stagger minutes between Cade and Ivey. Ivey doesn’t need to worry about it next season but down the road, that probably is the expectation.

It’s because he pretty much initiated offense at Purdue because they didn’t have a dedicated PG, right?

Yup, he’s the only option to be the initiator but he played off the ball a ton and was fine.

Duren falling is a head scratcher ( I disagreed with a lot of picks/ slides last night, even more than usual) but the pistons made off like bandits adding Ivey and him.

As pistons fans you guys should be psyched.

Cunningham, Ivey , Bey, Stewart, Duren, Diallo, Livers , Bagley is a nice young nucleus.

Need to add some 3 ball guys or 3 and d guys preferably and your set.

Bagley is a FA and I rather not bring him back. To me, he’s an undersized big who is bad on defense. With Duren in fold and potentially Ayton, bringing Bagley back doesn’t make sense.

Yes he’s an offensive center who thinks he’s a PF, and sort of positionless defensively (not in a good way!)

He’ll put up points and boards, but his teams generally suffer for his presence on the scoreboard.

I don’t see you guys signing Ayton now. If Bagley is a fa then it doesn’t matter but I think he could still be valuable in the right situation.

Yeah with the Duren pick I think one of Stewart, Olynyk or Bagley have to go. I’d probably just QO Bagley or let him walk

Bagley is the one most similar to Duren and the one that will incur additional cost to keep.

Similar in terms of being a lob threat and rim runner. Other than that, not at all similar. Bagley can’t guard a paper bag and can’t protect the rim while Duren can protect the rim and has switchability potential.

Yeah, I was implying Bagley is no longer needed and eats into cap space. I’d rather continue to sin eat. They need a PF. So maybe see if they can get a pick out of Atlanta by taking on Galinari. (Not sure if that opens up some cap space for Atlanta but that was my first thought after a cursory glance at players’ salaries.)

I would definitely prefer to sign Bagley if he takes a reasonable offer. He’s still a potential reclamation who could become a tradeable asset down the road. He’s not really playable with Duren, but there will be a lot of minutes Duren isn’t on the floor and whoever is running the offense at that point could use a lob threat and some of the offensive skills he brings. I wouldn’t give him $15M to stay, but something like a 3 year deal with the 3rd being a team option doesn’t hamper the timeline and could end up being useful in future trades.

I would prefer finding a SF and move Bey down to PF which is his best position.

Bridges would be a great fit in my opinion

He really wanted to be in Detroit. I love this kid.
