Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Guys Hayes stinks

Like baby diaper stinks

Like they probably won’t exercise his fourth year

Yes, I know the arguments for he does not.

I know he scored 26 on Aaron Wiggins in April

Lots of factors:

The guy who would be the most-seasoned of those 4 top-8 picks in the last 5 drafts (Isaac) hasn’t played the last two seasons due to injury. Though 5 years in, he’s played less than 2 season’s worth of games.

Okeke looks like a role player.

In '20-'21, they traded Vucevic, Gordon, and Fornier who, FWIW, were their best three players. Granted, they were barely a playoff team with them, but they were better than they currently are. So, you (or, at least their PR people) could say they’re only one season into their reboot.

Bamba, who was backing up Vucevic, only recently started playing like something close to a top-10 pick.

Now, they did add Wendel Carter Jr. in that Vucevic trade, so that’s another young guy who was taken in the top-10 (7th pick of the 2018 draft).

Looking at things, it seems like they’re taking a very similar path to what the Pistons have been doing the last 2 years.

I see him more of a Rubio type which is his best case scenario. His shooting is dreadful which limit his upside and also it’s puzzling that it’s bad considering his FT shooting %. So backup PG is a good fit for Hayes.

Rubio can dribble with his right hand right

f&*k.

I’m not a big fan of Hayes but at first I felt your initial comment was way too harsh, thinking ‘hey, you never know, he might become an all star defender’…right up until you reminded me the mfer can’t drive to the right.

Yeah, no, he’s a bust. Deciding who to draft by taking Hayes into consideration would be the dumbest move this franchise could make.

He’s a competent corner 3 from being a nice fit with Cade, either as a starter or a backup. No reason to expect greatness but also no rush to bail on Hayes.

See, I was thinking that as well. But…again…let alone finish at the rim, dude can’t drive from the right.

I agree. I wasn’t a fan of Hayes pre-draft and didn’t want him. I was a Haliburton fan but I get it because he doesn’t fit the rebuild timeline. Also, drafting Haliburton means no Cade because the Pistons would be slightly less awful in his rookie year.

KOC’s riding the Hayes hype train was strange considering his weaknesses that are still hasn’t been improved in the NBA. There are quite a few Pistons fans who preaches patience but he’s likely just a backup PG caliber.

Now, there are three teams most often linked by league personnel as Ayton’s potential suitors on the open market: Atlanta, Detroit and Portland. Multiple team executives also pointed to Charlotte, with a clear hole at center, and San Antonio, one of the few teams with significant cap space, as possible landing spots for Ayton.

I’m okay with giving Ayton the money. He’s only 23 and has gotten better each year. He’s a good pairing with Cade.

Why does he only play 30 mins a game?

Most centers play less. Embidd and Jokic both played career highs this year at 33.

I don’t like Ayton enough to do a sign and trade with Grant. I’ll be surprised if Phoenix lets him walk for nothing.

Hayes did show something (relatively speaking) after the all-star break. He still was awful from 3 but much-improved from inside the arc (around 51%). He also had nearly a 3 to 1 assist/TO ratio and averaged 1.6 steals a game in only 26.2 MPG.

I would be surprised if he becomes more than a good bench guy but I do see that as a very attainable future.

They will not.

I could see them asking Grant/Stewart as a starting package.

Geez. Thats nothing

If he ends up being the backup point guard that’s fine with me. You hope for more from the 7th pick but that’s not nothing.

Yeah, I think it’s just hard to play 40 mins when you’re that big.

Grant is going into his last year of his deal. If they can’t get a deal done then they have to move him. If the best deal is an Ayton move they should do it. I don’t want Grant with an extension staying in Detroit.

I agree. Banchero at 5 is a yes. Cade side kick.
