Like I said in the past, this is where they miss Ivey. They really don’t have anyone who can pressure the rim by himself and they can’t put their best defender on him because Cade is their priority.

You can’t play much better defense than the Pistons did all night. While Ausar was a disaster when he touched the ball on offense he played tough defense on Brunson. Brunson’s reaction when Ausar fouled out was pretty telling.

Ausar is going to be interesting in the playoffs because he’s unplayable on offense, but he’s so good on defense that it’s a conundrum.

Especially on nights like tonight when another starter (Hardaway tonight) is shooting so poorly. You’re almost playing 3 on 5 offensively. But man he gets on it playing defense.

He’s much further along than Holland. Thompson will have to play through the struggles. They’re not playing Fontecchio either.

That’s why finding a long term starter 4 to eventually replace Tobias is a big need for the Pistons. They badly need a 3 and D wing in this position.

Sometimes being a great defensive player in the playoffs isn’t enough if you’re not a threat on offense. That’s how GSW ran off Tony Allen out of the rotation despite him being an elite defender. The Grizzles were stuck playing 4 on 5 when GSW basically ignored TA.

I think even more so to be able to have a viable 4 who can play stretch 5.

They couldn’t exploit KAT because his man wasn’t a threat as a screener. Really the only way a hedge works consistently in the NBA with how big ball handlers are.

I don’t think they’ll need a 4 who can play down a position. They need a 4, period. Bobi is a developmental piece, and I expect Langdon to move up in the draft if the right player is available at the end of the 1st round (maybe Yax or Rasheer?)

that was his Super Bowl

Mostly what the Pistons need are a lot more really good players. They’re super reliant on guys who just aren’t top 50 guys. Cade played like a top 15 guy tonight but everybody else was several tiers below that.

I hope Trajan shows patience tho bc Ivey, Ausar, and Holland could turn into those guys. Just getting a year older will be worth a lot to this team.
