Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

It’s funny that people were talking about Murray to the Pistons at various points. It shows that was all nonsense because Detroit would not have had the draft capital to compete with a trade like that. They could’ve offered Ivey or Ausar, which would be an upgrade(?) compared to Dyson Daniels, but not being able to trade any 1st round picks until 2028 really kills their ability to make deals for good players.

Random account there?

Clearly a fake account throwing stuff against the wall… hits on some, misses on most.

Maybe I’m misremembering but JB seems totally fine? And way better than Borrego?

Langdon continues to seem like maybe he’s got this.

I don’t like the hire.

Replace Casey’s name with JB’s name in any rationale, it’s the same. I do not want an another re-tread hire. I want them to hire an assistant coach.

I think that’s a mistake. Taking a risk on somebody you’re not sure can command the locker room and inspire effort after last season would be a very bad downside. The upside on pretty much every hire is minimal—there are a handful of coaches that cause a huge impact on winning. And most of it is on defense bc effort and cohesion anyway!

Once you have a culture in place, maybe take an upside swing. Don’t have anything resembling that yet.

I wanted Sam Cassel, Sweeny or Nori. JB wasn’t really on my list but he’s probably competent. His last three years in Cleveland, they won 44, 51, and 48 games. Prior to that, they were just as awful as we’ve been. Sure, they also added more talent than we have but maybe that still points to some player development.

At least I hope so. Like it or not, he’s our guy now.

The bright side is he’s not coming off the cursed Coach of the Year award!

By the way, @mgl what do you think about your Bulls throwing Pat Williams a big bag?

im down on langdon if only because tom gores thought that hiring him would be a good idea lol

I know this is a different sport but the Lions rolled the die on Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes and it worked out for them well. The Pistons continue to keep on hiring re-treads with the exact same results. I’m tired of re-treads. I would much rather gamble on an assistant coach who can grow with the franchise as opposed to re-treads.

This is how I feel about the hire:

What was wrong with Casey? I thought he did fine

He wasn’t that good of a coach IMO, but he was much better than Monty which is a low bar to clear. Casey did a good job of building up team culture, but his deficiencies were too much to overcome IMO.
