Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

It’s really impossible to judge how good these two are from film alone. I watch them and think they look like they’re clowning 3rd graders.

I hope FOs have a good understanding of their level of competition and how their talent scales.

I think Ausar has a better chance of sticking in the NBA than Amen because Ausar showed improvement in shooting mechanics but he’s still a minus shooter. He needs to be shooting at least 35-37% to be a threat at the perimeter. If there’s one thing to be encouraged is he shot 39% in the OTE playoff.

(Sorry for multiple posts)

You all think Kobe can play the Wing?

I think he would fit perfectly, regardless.

Kobe @ 5, who says no? Safest pick in the draft.

I think Hendricks is a cross between JJJ and Miles Bridges and that’s the high end outcome. Elite defender who can block shot and can shoot 39-42% from 3 pt but has potential to expand more than a shooter. I think he’s an all-star which is why I’m higher on him than most here.

Kobe still needs to bulk up but he can play 2 for sure with potential to be a 1. That’s his biggest value. He can play down to 3 if necessary but his lack of strength will show up big time there.

Kobe is tough to tell because he’s good at everything but not elite at any one of them with the exception to shooting at the rim which he’s the best among guards in the draft class in terms of shooting percentage.

That’s my biggest reservation about them. They play in a bad competition and the euro pro teams are lower end of the pro league with a bunch of bench players so they never played the actual starters. It’s really hard to gauge how their game will translate to the NBA level.

My concern is that Ausar, unlike his brother, is coming into the NBA without an ELITE skill.
Amen is a top 1% athlete (maybe a top playmaker as well).

What is Ausar bringing as a small forward that is truly elite?

Kobe is an elite finisher at the rim, apparently his numbers in that regard are historically bonkers.

As a 2 guard I don’t see why he can’t play next to Ivey and Cade, who is big enough to play off ball as the 3 if necessary. I think it would work really well.

If everybody is doing it, why rate their improvement materially? I’d expect them to get better. Like, sheer mean regression is worth a ton to shooters w horrible numbers. But if you can’t expect them to be close to average, I’m not much persuaded that it matters.

Is everybody making improvements, though?Amen didn’t improve his shooting, for example. I will concede it’s hard to know if kids in the top 10 are making improvements since they’re nearly all freshmen.

Four games

Im comfortable saying neither is good but plenty of toolsy guys have figured it out

If Amen can get to 33% from 3 on 4-5 attempts a game he will be an absolute menace

I’m perfectly comfortable saying that Amen will likely be a career 30% 3 pt shooter. His form is so broken that it needs to be overhauled.

I know Amen fans pointed Lonzo Ball as example but Zo shot 40% at UCLA with a broken form. Not comparable.

Ball shot well in college but had a glacial mechanic that he trashed and rebuilt

Regardless, I look more at how effective an offensive player Morant is despite shoot 31% from 3 because he ceaselessly gets to the paint

They surrounded Ja with shooters. They need to do the same with Amen. Pistons isn’t that team because they don’t have the roster to accentuate Amen’s strengths. Jaden was able to figure it out bc he is a much better shooter than Amen by a wide margin. Amen is a terrible fit for the Pistons. He’s not a good enough prospect to be saying take him regardless of the fit. He’s much lower on my board compared to the consensus.

I think they’re both going to be rough rough shooters if they follow usual shooting trajectories but it might not matter if they’re big and high IQ and dominant athletes w a handle. Why do you need a ball screen to create an advantage when you can do it on your own?

Kind of liking my Giannis on O comp. They’re smaller but if the athleticism is really elite, it comes out to the same thing.

They started Dillon Brooks and Steven Adams

Giannis is 6’11” with broad shoulder who can get to the rim bc of length and strength. That’s not their game at all

Discussing Amen is besides the point because he’ll be gone, I just thinking saying he needs to become a 37% shooter is beside the point because you draft him to have the ball and beat his man straight up

Ausar very similar obviously. Given your concentration on fit, I know why you don’t like them.

Yeah I literally said that

I thought you were Whitmore all the way at 5 @colin. What has given you second thoughts? Or maybe I’m making the whole W thing up.
