Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Yes, but a NBA Championship-winning coach wasn’t available until now. I’m hoping that changes things.

In all seriousness

I think Bud is much better as a program builder coach than a title chasing coach. I think his regular season success (unimpeachable) and playoff struggles (save the two years prior to this) lead to that

Not meant as an insult, I think it’s what the Pistons need. But he will clearly be very expensive.

More than most, Bud may benefit from a year off. In a lot of dimensions but I’m thinking primarily of family life.

If the Pistons were to win the lottery, I’d be more intrigued.

If true

I’m not a fan

White or Quinn were the guys that interested me most. I hear White is a finalist in Toronto though and I’d wager they’re paying more.

(I’m thinking the Milwaukee assistant…is that Charles White or Charles Lee? That guy)

I wanted a journeyman former NBA player so I might have monkey pawed this. I’m willing to keep an open mind but I want to know what he was doing in the three years between getting forced out of college and taking over the Overtime Elite.

Overtime Elite really prepares you to coach the highest level of basketball in the world

I always wanted them to give Bill Laimbeer a shot.

Nick Nurse was a G League coach and there are a lot of good people who went the scouting and development route. So I won’t hold that against him. Just not sure what he was doing the three years before that.

Lots of good coaches have come from G League gigs (Dagnault as well off the top of my head)

I’m not clear what coaching OTE really applies to the NBA

I said earlier in this thread - NBA front offices LOVE Kevin Ollie, it’s why he got to play for like a dozen years despite never being good

He wasn’t coaching OTE. He was head of Coaching and Player Development.

Is that better? (Not rhetorical, I swear)

Just more accurate. Sort of like how Rod Strickland (or was it Nick Van Exel? Or both?) were high up in overseeing player development in the G League but not part of a specific team’s coaching staff. Like I said, I have no idea if he can coach at a high level in the NBA.

More trusted source. Maybe they should rename this feed Trilly Packer, amirite?

I’m intrigued by Collins.

If I could bet the Over 0.5 on one of Trilly’s two wrong takes this week to actually happen, I would hammer it

It is literally impossible for one guy to have insider contacts at all high major programs and nba franchises
