1 year, but that’s still kinda funny.
Knox will play in that you need at least 15 players to get through a NBA season. But I doubt he’s a rotation guy unless there’s injuries and/or Pistons staff gets something out of him that hasn’t been shown at nba level yet.
Defensive stats are still a work in progress, but this is really encouraging.
Jesus, look at the length of Williams’ arms, makes PJ Tucker look like a child.
Good thing he’s apparently going to be guarding 4’s on the perimeter while Bagley patrols the paint?
He’ll be able to play the 4 or 5 with whoever else they play at the other spot.
His perimeter D also looked pretty good late in the season, so I think that could be an asset as well.
Did Bagley injure one of your family members or something?
I never understood the claim that Stewart can’t rim protect. It’s like people look at his height and not the actual games (or even simple stats like Block rate.) Add in his ability to switch onto wings and stay in front of him and he gives you everything you want as far as playoff defense.
I don’t care if he’s maybe a little short to be a real center or maybe a little slow to be a wing, and I definitely don’t care that @mgl’s cousin was killed by Bagley although I will say sorry to be polite, but I do think Beef Stew is a real Bad Boy. He’s a true Piston for real. He should have calmed down eventually after the LeBron elbow but I don’t hate that even the commentators were wondering if he would run under the tunnel. (Spoiler: he didnt.) You’re the man, Isaiah.
Stewart is a little short (6-8.5 in shoes) to be a center, but his wingspan (measured nearly 7-5 at the combine) helps offset the true height number. It really seems clear the Pistons hope/think he can play the 4, which we’ll find out this season if that’s possible.
He really doesn’t seem to have the physical tools that would make you think he’s gonna be a long term rim protector. He’s very long but that still only leaves him w a standing reach a bit over 9 feet. Prob below average for an NBA 5. He’s not super bouncy either right?
I dk, not trying to be super negative on the guy. He’s clearly at least a rotation player in the NBA just don’t know how much ceiling is there. Typical starter seems fine, not sure much past that?
Depends on the 3, if he really can shoot it, because count me amongst those that thought he was a somewhat decent rim protector last year. That said I did not watch enough Pistons to really be confident in what I think of any of these players. Not the biggest NBA guy, but glad to have players on my team that make me excited about watching more.
He’s a quick jumper (w/ a long wingspan). And he has a great second jump. That’s more important for shot blocking and rebounding than a max vert.
It’s almost as if you guys didn’t watch Robert Williams in the playoffs. That’s the mold of player Stew is. He just turned 21, he absolutely has the physical attributes to be a rim protector considering his wingspan, and he’s a very switchable defender.
I’m seeing a 9’4 standing reach for Timelord and 9’0 for Beef Stew. Apparently Timelord has a super small neck
I don’t think he’ll block shots at the level Robert Williams can. That guy’s a terror. The closest comp I can think of is Draymond without the elite defensive IQ. But hopefully he can develop that with more experience.
I think he’s pretty clearly a good defender. I don’t buy his offensive game the way the Pistons blog do (makes sense, they aren’t my favorite team), and I do think the comp to Williams, despite being a good defender, is a little bit of a stretch given arm length and vertical leap.
He basically needs to develop a 3 pointer to be a 30 mpg player on offense IMO. Good defender but massively holds back an offense due to his lack of target radius as a screener
He took 46 3s last year, which is probably more concerning regarding that outcome than the 32%.
Pistons need someone to take 3s, god knows.
Yeah Robert Williams has elite instincts and above average standing reach. I don’t see their tools or production as particularly comparable. But it’s not like I’ve watched a ton of Stewart and it’s not like I think he’s bad on D either. Just doubt he’s going to be well above average for a center, which is what that rim protection stat seemed to indicate.
Stewart’s production at his age is prob the thing to hang your hat on as a Pistons fan. What he looks like at 25 is what matters and that’s a long time from now. Also means he’s not physically/athletically what he’s going to be yet.
