Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Would it be stupid or inspired to put an area code ON THE FRONT of the shirt instead of letters? Has that ever been done? So no lame WSH on the front of the Nat’s jersey, just 202. And a jersey number in the back.

I like it too, but I think since Boston has basically worn the same uniform for the entire lifetime of any fan, there is a resistance

Relatedly, there were lots of really cool jerseys in the NHL’s “reverse retro” thing last year (like the Wild and the Kings), but teams like the Red Wings just sort of adjusted a few colors and were boring. Pretty typical of long-running orgs in most of these leagues.

I do like their “313” logo. And how Mason says “from the 313” whenever a Piston hits a three pointer. (Which didn’t happen enough for it to get annoying.)

Mason was great during the Ben/Chauncey/Rip era. I’m not a big fan anymore. The couple of games I went to last season had me annoyed with some of the ways he called baskets. I don’t know why it bothered me, but sometimes he just used the players last name and other times he just used their first name and I found it annoying.

Agreed, Mason got us going with the “Deeeeetroit Basketballllllll” thing. But eventually, the cameras got so focused on him that he started playing it up even more…and I got over him.

Then again, I’m not the biggest fan of most arena announcers, who make me feel like I’m at a circus and not a sporting event. It’s not an easy gig, so I don’t envy their position.

“From the 313” made more sense when the team played at the Palace, since it *wasn’t * in the 313. Shooting from so far out that he’s in another area code - that was clever. Now that the team is downtown it doesn’t work as well. Maybe it should become “from the 248/586/734”?

I know you perceive me as an influencer/tastemaker, and that’s fine, but, to be honest – even at the risk of disappointing you – the real truth is that I am the kind of middle-aged person who runs the real risk of not being right on top of every fashion development.

Hey- I was in the dark about Buffs until the Big Gretch song 2-3 years ago, so I’m not exactly tied into things.

However, with such a huge deal that was made when Cade donned then during his interview on draft night, and the ensuing Twitter (and Pistons Forum) attention it got, I thought it was unavoidable to learn about.

Never again underestimate my ability to ignore cultural emphemera

I was in the dark too until Cade on draft night. Felt like a fool that I had to Google “buffs,” but then seeing they were $4k sunglasses I didn’t feel so bad that I was unaware of their existence.

Is Knox going to play? Is he competition with Livers? Knox is still 2 years younger than Livers.
