“Once Ayton signs” tells us it’s not quite official. Also seeing other NBA people on twitter saying it’s not quite official yet.
I don’t think it’s likely at all for the Suns to work something out either.

If the Suns don’t match, that could work out well for Indiana. They could then flip Myles Turner for additional assets.
Suns didn’t even extend him an offer lol
Not likely is an understatement. People were really falling over themselves to praise the move as smart because ‘Ayton is not a max worthy player’, siding with one of the dumbest owners and worst run franchises in the entire sport.
They were basically just waiting for this.
I would guess they will match just cause it’d be insane not to, but if Sarver is that cheap that they don’t than I would be beyond upset if I was a Suns fan
Spoiler alert: He’s literally this cheap and bad of an owner. This is not a surprise.
It hurts the franchise so much long term. Booker will be looking to get out of there. FA will never want to sign there under this ownership. Only the Josh Smith’s of the league would go there. I would hate to be a Suns fan.
Try to get Mitchell maybe? Though I don’t see Utah wanting Turner in return, so might need to involve other teams.
Seems like this is the consensus on NBA Twitter right now but I don’t totally get it. Pacers have to believe the Suns will match this to end up agreeing to a S&T, right? Otherwise the Pacers can just call their bluff and get Ayton without giving anything back? Unless they’d be getting draft picks or something, which seems insane since the Suns are in on KD. Think I’m bumping up against my very limited understanding of the NBA.
Stauskas had a good run for the Pacers
Indiana Pacers legend Nik Stauskas.
Yeah it seems to me that Woj reported “is signing” which means it hasn’t happened yet but the Pacers need to go thru the paces (heh) to indicate to the Suns that they are indeed serious. So they needed to dump those 3 to clear the room and we’re still at some kind of weird game of chicken.
let’s remember some big ten guys
I’m not particularly concerned with anything the Pacers are doing.
You’re going to feel silly when the Pacers successfully execute their glorious 70 year plan for a championship dynasty that includes no lottery picks and zero superstars.
Welp, bluff called.
That was quick. My guess is the Suns didn’t think he would get the max and was hoping that Ayton would get less than max contract, but instead they played themselves into having to pay him the max anyway. What a disaster management by the Suns.
I think they just didn’t want to give him the extra year. And I believe you can only have 2 post rookie contract max extensions on your team at a time. It’s why the Nets can’t have Simmons and Mitchell
If they had a reputation of not being cheap they would’ve been fine. Now Sarver is going to insist on them dumping money elsewhere to get under the tax? Ay caramba
