It’s 1/4 the cost but someone please explain to me what Marvin Bagley has proven that Kevin Knox has not
Ok I take this back
But I badly want to know who Weaver is bidding against on these deals.

Did Marvin Bagley do something to your family? I’ve never seen a bigger Bagley hater
Bagley has averaged 14 and 7 for his career despite being drafted by the most dysfunctional franchise in the league and you’re acting like he’s Darko Milicic.
Did the Pistons overpay? Yes. Is Bagley bad? No. Did he seem to have good chemistry with Cade in his limited time in Detroit? Yes. Do the Pistons now need to move one of their bigs? Yes.
Lol I know you guys hate my opinions but you don’t have to reach this hard to prove me wrong.
I am on my phone so can’t find it, but he was roughly the single worst adjusted +/- guy in the past 4 years over a certain minutes threshold
He is the epitome of empty calories
His stats aren’t even good! He’s a below average TS% low usage big who can’t play defense! He’s like half an Oreo.
What if I told you he was a below average efficiency HIGH usage big (23%)
Is that better?
No?
Anyway, on the Kanter comparison (pretty apt, but Enes was a better offensive rebounder), at Bagley’a age, I think we got the legendary “Can’t play Kanter”’ lip-read.
Hit me with a Marvin/Enes DARKO graph
Duren’s, bc I want JD to be in the G League until
People get hurt or traded or he forces the issue. This will work out.
Hartenstein got 2 years, $16 mil
Way better player than Bagley.
It just reinforces how starved Cade Cunningham has been of decent teammates these past 2 years when he looks like a kid in a playground throwing all those lobs for Bagley to dunk. lol At OSU it was him + four bums and it wasn’t much better this last year. Yea, I just wanted to wax lyrical about Cade but man this kid is so good. I wanna add how cool it is he chose to play for Oklahoma State instead of some big name school and still ended up the number 1 pick.
I almost feel fortunate as a fan that a player this uniquely good is playing for a team I follow. I’m a f*cking deist and my god is cade cunningham, he will take us to the promised land.
Anyways back to Bags, he’s a former number 1 pick who seems to be enjoying himself after, I assume, having his soul sucked dry by the Sacramento Kings. Maybe Weaver thinks any improvement from this year to the next could easily have teams coming after him.
Hartenstein is not good. Weird guy to pick to say is way better than Bagley. Are you a closet Kings fan who is just salty that they drafted him over Luka and Trae? It’s a very strange agenda to be pushing back this hard on a 14 and 7 player.
Look at their per 36 numbers and tell me Bagley is better
2 more points, same boards, less stocks
And Hartenstein is a good defender.
Look at Poetl ($17 mil, 2 years)
It’s a massive overpay.
I’m a Bulls fan/Pistons well-wisher.
I don’t know what to tell you, but if you give any center a 23% usage, there’s gonna be numbers.
Apologies to Enes to compare him to Bagley
Yeah I mean who doesn’t want a guy who’s had 4 years to crack replacement level and hasn’t done it.
In fairness to the Pistons fans who think he’s not abominable he really did put the ball in the hoop in that 18 games. Maybe that turns into a thing, I dk. Still doesn’t justify the contract, but I get where the vibes are coming from.
The pay and the player are two separate topics. Im sure everyone will agree that Bagley was overpaid. That doesn’t automatically mean he’s the worst player in the league. He is talented. He was the #1 player in the country out of HS and the #2 pick in the draft. I don’t mind taking a risk of untapping some of that ability. He is no longer with the worst organization in the NBA. He played well after coming to Detroit. It’s a small sample size but I don’t think you can say a Kings sample size is the best judge of a 23 year old player either. The Kings organization is a train wreck.
Do I wish the Pistons signed him for $9 mil instead of $12.5? Yes. Do I wish there was a team option baked into the contract? Yes. Do I wish it was 2 years instead of 3? Yes.
He played well in his short stint in Detroit and showed some chemistry with Cade. Just need to hope that he takes advantage of his new situation in Detroit and continues to play like he did at the end of the season. And if he doesn’t, then yeah it’s a bad move. But Pistons are in position to take chances on players like this. If it works out, that’s great. If it doesn’t, they get another high draft pick next year. They aren’t ready to compete yet anyways. The timeline is still years away.
I think a big part of the problem is that even if he played as well as he did at the end of the season, he’s still probably not worth the money.
Hartenstein had a 66% TS and 20% AST on 1200 minutes w 4x the block rate Bagley managed. He had a really nice season. If you want to bet on a guy at that price it’s pretty clear where you should spend that $$.
Hartenstein hasn’t scored 20 points in a game his entire career. Bagley did it 4 times with the Pistons, including a 25 and 27 point effort. Maybe if you’re a contending team you’d rather have a pure role player like Hartenstein, but especially without Grant the Pistons need some players to put the ball in the basket.
Lol, so many Stephen A smith’s in here. It’s ok to not have a strong opinion on something. Bagley got the upper end of what I thought he was gonna get, but this is a solid signing. He’ll get some min at the 4 too.
