Well Tobias has one year left and PJ can slide in to be the future starter at PF. That solves the problem on finding a starting PF without needing to spend a 1st FRP. Also, it’s a (hypothetical) trade so PJ has zero say on this. If PJ is the starter and Tobias is the backup, then fine. It works for the Pistons because they literally do not have a viable backup PF all year this season.
right I’m saying that the Mavs can get more for a good starter on a great contract than a 3rd guard, a 5th forward, and a 2nd round pick
The Mavs do not have Kyrie for next season and need a ballhandler. Schroeder makes sense for the Mavs considering they don’t have a PG on the roster. The PG FA market is bad.
Is there a path for Dallas to find a starting level PG in the FA or trade? There isn’t room for PJ once Cooper is drafted.
I’m not sure that elevanting a team from 25 wins to 29 is something I’d trade PJ washington for
I’m being a littler hyperbolic, but “starting Dennis Schroeder” is not something a playoff team does, so the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
Indeed, sir!
My most insanely hot take that is almost certainly false but feels correct is that the Pacers are juicing. They play so so so hard.
Godspeed Pacers, please give us a competitive series
My hot take is that Siakam is a very under-rated player
Herb Simon should write Robert Sarver a thank you note
Some fun random Finals/ECF factoids:
-
This will be the third time since 1986 (if you think Kareem was still better than Magic) or 1983 (if you don’t) that the champion’s best player was acquired by trade (Shai from the Clippers, Haliburton from the Kings) (Kawhi and Garnett the others)
-
It’s the first time since the luxury tax that the finals will be contested by two teams that aren’t paying it (the 2020 Lakers, 2015 and 2017 Warriors, and 2014 Spurs won without paying it, but their opponents did)
-
in the ECF: Pacers outscored the Knicks by 79 points on possessions that followed turnovers. The Knicks outscored the Pacers by 68 on all other possessions.
-
there is also a factoid that claims both teams were in part built by trading Paul George, but the Pacers claim to me is tenuous as its second-order (they traded George for Oladipo and Sabonis, then Sabonis for Hali) but you can reach your own conclusion
Rumor is the Pistons are interested in Naz Reid and Myles Turner. Naz is expected to opt out of his contract.
I have difficulty seeing how either is possible barring some preceding movies?
Naz is expected to be an FA with the opt-out. I guess the Pistons have enough room to sign him
Might have to be of the S&T variety. But I doubt that Turner is going anywhere.
More realistic target is Jake Laravia who expressed interest in the Pistons. Maybe for the biannual exception.
Might as well kick the tires once more on Tek if that’s the option. Maybe Jake isn’t as targeted on defense? I’m not sure but that seems very underwhelming.
If they’re not making a big move, and I don’t think they will be, I’d mainly like to see them bring back Beez and Schröeder, and find a legit big man to replace B-Ball Paul. From a vibes perspective, it would be great if TIMMAY could come back in a reduced role and reduced contact but I don’t think it will play out that way.
Yeah, I think moves around the margins are the most likely this year. I think you still need to get some more info on what you have with Ivey, Duren, Thompson, Holland. Turner is better than Duren but I’m not really clear on the purpose of that swap long term. I’m less into Schroder just because I don’t know what the theoretical role is for him if the team stays healthy, it seems like a situation that seems like the Pistons offering too much for the role and Schroder accepting a role that’s too small.
Obviously if you can get a surefire quality starter that fits reasonably go for it (Trey Murphy!) but that’s obviously not the expectation.
