Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 1)

Didn’t see it at the time, but heard it referenced on a pod so went to find it

this is such a slick move by Buzelis

Since he begain starting:

26.7 mpg
13.1 ppg
4 rpg
1.7 apg
1 bpg
48% fg%, 34.1% 3fg% on nearly 5 attempts
59.2% ts

not bad

He’s got a pretty bright future.

I think when we recruited him, we all saw the skill and athleticism combo, but the G League (a truly terrible situation we saw swallow Ron Holland too) sort of made people wonder if he’d figure it out and turn it to production

I still say this G-League thing was totally fine. It’s just simply the case that 19 yr olds are already a ways behind most college high major starters and putting them up against the best of those starters when they’re 25 years old is even tougher.

Holland and Buzelis showed they could make some 2s, had premium stocks, and some nice athleticism and that’s a pretty classic portrait for a good lottery pick.

I think it was missing all the threes (in Buzelis’ case, Holland still misses them)

I do think that both Buzelis and Holland got stuck eating massive usage on a terrible overall team against overwhelming comp

I think Ron’s 5 of 10 from 3 after his brutal 0-26 streak. Trending up!

Also, I’m pretty sure that scrum with DiVincenzo was motivated by the 2018 NCAA Championship. Ron’s a Wolverine, at heart. :grinning:

Funny, I have far more faith in Ron’s being able to become a competent shooter than Ausar. I think Ausar has a looooooong way to go to get there even with Vinson coaching. Ron needs a bit of a tweak and continued practice with Vinson to get there.

I’m far more confident in Ivey being a consistent 40% 3 pt shooter lol

Yeah I am sympathetic to the idea that they needed 1 more guy for that specific team to just take some shots. Should have paid a Jarrett Jack equivalent or something.

I’m late to the party here, but even as a Timberwolves fan I as rooting against Divencenzo in that fight because of 2018.

His neck got scratched up pretty good. I don’t think the Pistons did nearly enough to him. I mean I would have been fine with a stone cold stunner or some sweet chin music.

Ivey in shootaround:

Ivey’s also at shootaround 👀. Not dressed to play, though

Pistons hung with a full strength Thunder on the road without Cade, Ivey, Stewart, Holland, Sasser and, for the 2nd half, Tobias Harris. 4 point game with under four minutes left.

Edit: OKC sat Caruso.

Thankfully, we have Toronto coming up next and Holland and Sasser will be able to play. I hope that Cade can come back soon.

The fact that the famously least serious player in history is paid to discuss the NBA is wild to me

There are at least two to three topics I think Nick Young is probably more credentialed to discuss

This is a guy who said his self-given nickname (Swaggy P) was a “biblical reference” to “The Prophet of Swag” (someone with more biblical knowledge than me can confirm if there was a prophet of swag)

If we are outrage framing wherever Nick Young is mouth-farting, lol

(FWIW my take on Stewart is nearly the opposite - his problem isn’t that he may be a fake tough guy, his problem is that I think he may actually seriously hurt someone, this isn’t Draymond or Sheed getting techs by being annoying)

He has a podcast, like thousands of others. I doubt he’s making a ton on that but idk

Lol Stew is one of the last players I’d want to mess with in the NBA. He is big, strong, mean and has a boxing background.

He literally ran through the tunnels in an arena with the idea of obliterating the league’s most protected player. Not someone I’d mess with either.
