I think he just wants to be Markus Howard. Not happening here.
If we get Josh (which the staff seems confident in) I think your desperate need for a pg is very exaggerated. Look at how Josh played at Mayfair last year. He played with one of the best point guards in the country and still was the primary ball handler a good amount of the time. Eli might not necessarily be better than Dave was but he would be a better compliment to JC.
Also just because you might not understand his âto the leagueâ mindset doesnât mean he doesnât have one. I feel like it makes sense that a star at a school doing poorly has a better chance to get drafted than the 6th man at a better school.
Eh, Iowa State, Cincy, and Marquette are legit top 25 programs most years. Mizzou is trash though.
The ultimate JC move now would be to create a graphic with both him and Dave in Mizzou unis.
I remember back in the day when there was a huge Detroit to Mizzou pipeline.
Rickey Paulding and Arthur Johnson! That Mizzou squad was legit!
Jamal Cain was a huge miss for Beilien! No idea what he was thinking!
Doug Smith and Lee Coward when you go further back- plus Albert White transferred there.
Norm Stewart was a very creative recruiter.
Sandy Sanders says hello.
Oh, the memories.
I didnât realize it as well but Cincinnati has Sean Dwyer (attended MSU, from Saginaw) on staff which gives a Michigan connection that Missouri and Marquette both have.
I imagine Dave was not confident he would start over Brooks this year and perceives he was recruited over when we got a commitment from Zeb Jackson (back in 2018, no less). That seems right to me - Zeb is the much higher ranked player and, I think, the one who has the greater chance of being a pro.
Itâs entirely possible DDJ could have won the job this fall and kept it for two years, too. But he probably didnât have any strong assurances from the coaching staff that it would work out that way, either.
But I agree, Brooks is not Trey Burke or even Derrick Walton. Other teams will have comparable guys to Brooks, you would think.
Creative indeed.
Sounds like DDJ has a landing spot
My guess is Marquette. But Iâd root for anything else to try to push Karim Mane to Marquette
If he is a fit at Marquette it would be cool to see him land there.
Iowa State has been striking out on transfers so far. DDJ to ISU, Mane to Marquette, Izzo to the liquor cabinet, everyoneâs happy
Doesnât Mane see himself as a one and done, though? DDJ wonât be eligible until next year.
As someone who follows their program pretty closely (Cronin recruited NYC pretty thoroughly during his tenure), Iâll make a pitch for DDJ to Cincinnati:
-Closest school in his final 4 (1.5 hours closer to Detroit than Milwaukee)
-Cincy already struck out on 2 recruits with strong ties to the school/city (Carlik Jones is from Cincy and Jalen Tate played 3 years for Coach Brannen and his dad was a former Bearcat basketball player), meaning they likely have put the full court press on DDJ since they havenât made any other transferâs final 4 list yet.
-After graduating Cumberland this year (and his cousin who was the 6th man) they have a gaping hole at one of their starting guard spots for next season.
-Even if he sits, they graduate their best wing player in 2021, Keith Williams, meaning DDJ could walk into another open starting spot during the following fall.
-He would be their 2nd/3rd best overall player at the moment. He wouldnât have to fight for minutes or shots.
-With DDJ and maybe one more incoming player, Cincy should be favored to finish top 3 in the AAC next season. They made 9 straight tournaments before this season. Heâll have a chance to win a lot of games there.
-The AAC, while no Big 10, is a pretty decent league with an improving profile on the mid-major/high-major border.
-Cincy has a great updated arena, a nice urban campus, and as a city is far from the worst place to spend a few years of your life.
