Thank god for a 3 seed. That could easily been a losing performance against a better foe
I was impressed by Montana’s defense in the half court. They really swarmed to the ball. That said, there’s no reason why some of the fast break turnovers should’ve happened.
It was like we were playing on like a smaller court or something (just what it seemed like).
The court seems huge when our fast break is working. It seemed so much smaller on the break tonight.
To be fair, that 14 seed was a fair amount better than 4 of the 12/13 seeds on Kenpom.
I wonder if it had anything to do with trying to get the starters in a rhythymn after such a bad 1st half and the awkward delay to start the 2nd half. He kept the same 5 out there a long time despite not being good offensively.
UM was +11 in the second half and +11 in the first ten minutes of the 2nd half, so with all the stoppages and X’s and MAAR’s rest in the first half, keeping the same guys out there doesn’t seem so crazy.
He needed to get Z going, I’ll tell you that.
Guy got 3 minutes in the first half.
People in Wichita saw some appalling basketball tonight.
Maybe. Montana offensively was terrible. If M played those guys 20 times, i think they would go 20-0.
Glad we didn’t play Buffalo.
Looks like another late game Saturday nite.
Hope that we shook the majority of the rust off because that game was terrible, by both teams. I’m surprised how bad Montana was. It feels like we had played one of our worst games of the year and still won by 14.
Thank goodness. We played like 3 separate games, what with the early fouls, then halftime, then the damn clock BS. We need the time.
Wow! PAC 12 is done.
While Poole was on the bench, we were holding Montana without a bucket for 10 minutes. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Providence-TAMU has been rough
Layoff hurting that Purdue offense too
Couldn’t agree more. One of the main keys to going deep this year is a confident Poole. When he was in there he was playing conservatively—I assume by design. It just isn’t in his nature to defer so much. He was second guessing himself a lot last night. Not good.
This team seems to play tight when they are the favorite. I’m looking forward to that ending after they beat Houston. I’d be thrilled if they came out aggressive vs. Houston, don’t get me wrong. Get back to hunting.
Providence should be running away with this game. A&M makes terrible mistake after terrible mistake but Friars can’t take advantage. So I’m exoecting the Aggies to steal it late
I feel like Poole is kinda stuck right now. He knows his role as a spark-plug if he is just giving CM a blow and feels like he has the green light to go during that time. I am not sure that he feels completely comfortable coming into the rotation early (due to an early foul by MAAR or CM) with a mindset of being a contributor to the offense instead of the focal point. Next year if he can get drilled with some better decision making, i think that he will be the/a regular focal point, but that isnt the case this year and is struggling to find his role.
I agree with both and Buckets that we need him to get going if we are going to make a run in this tournament, especially if Mo isnt clicking on a given night. Almost every one else can play a supporting role to Poole, but think that Poole just needs the green-light from Beilien to get going.
It’s tough to play a Freshman over a Senior like MAAR. Sometimes Poole loses his focus on D…I keep thinking of the time he was stripped in the Purdue after he had the ball under the basket. Just lost his intensity…
