At the beginning of the season he didn’t have an injury and UNC was a top 10 team. You can see how the situation is different now and it would be understandable if he didn’t want to risk aggravating his injury and his draft stock to come back for an NIT team.
I guess what I am saying is that if he is healthy he should come back. If he is still injured, then of course sit.
You sign up for the season or you don’t. If he is healthy, he should play.
You must be one of the people who complained about Devin Bush and Rashan Gary sitting out the bowl game too. If your professional career is in sight, you do what you can to protect your future, especially when the remaining game(s) won’t mean much. UNC is already 8-7 and still hasn’t played Duke x2, Louisville, FSU or Virginia (second time). The season is over. They aren’t getting in the tourney. They weren’t very good with him and they are downright bad without him. Why risk it at this point? Only bad things can happen that would hurt his status as a top 5 pick (another injury, poor play after rust from injury, etc.).
I don’t know the degree of their lingering injuries at that time. No one does. My stance is still the same. If you are healthy, you should play.
Like Jake Butt did?

But I know that in my heart, I wanted to play in that game — for my teammates, for Coach Harbaugh and the rest of my coaches, and for the University of Michigan.
I didn’t see anything wrong with the decisions those guys made. I mean, I didn’t know anything about Leonard Fournette’s family situation or how Christian McCaffrey’s body felt, so who was I to judge them?
I would agree with this line of reasoning if Cole Anthony had chosen to play college ball over the options of going straight to the NBA. He didn’t have that option though.
Yes, like Jake butt did
Yeah, I know Jake Butt says he didn’t regret it. And that was his personal choice. And selfishly as a fan, you want to see your guys play. Obviously, if Cole wants to play then he should play. I’m just saying if a player makes the decision not to play in a situation such as this (or Bush/Gary) then it is completely understandable. Nobody is footing the bill for all of the money lost if something happens while playing in meaningless games. Butt had an insurance policy, but it doesn’t cover all of the lost revenue falling from a day 2 NFL draft pick to a 6th round pick. Nor does it protect against his future team having less of an investment in a 6th round pick than a 2nd or 3rd rounder. And now that he’s been injured again, his career will likely never have the trajectory that it once could have. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets cut soon. NFL teams don’t have a lot of patience to begin with, but especially not with late round picks that they didn’t use a high resource on.
And sure, Cole will be drafted either way even if he gets injured. But a guy like Michael Porter Jr. fell from a probable top 3 pick to #14 after his injury. It’s a risk that Cole may not want to take.
I’m not making any argument for either side… I think I highlighted both sides to this in that very story. Just providing a link…
It is far easier to take that position if you aren’t the one risking millions of dollars.
Of course.
Seems like Silver has finally realized what I’ve been saying about one and done this whole time… It’s objectively a net benefit for the NBA. Now the NCAA just needs to provide a way to compensate players for their likeness so that we can retain upperclass-men that aren’t major NBA prospects and the system will finally be good.
Arizona/Oregon going to OT in Eugene. Still salty about that Oregon game.
Wow. Interesting. That’s gonna make some people (Lebron) upset. But yeah it’s absolutely a benefit for the NBA to get the extra year of scouting in.
Providence started their game against Butler 0/13 from the field.
Providence has actually won 4 straight, a win against Texas and 3 Big East games with 2 on the road. But dug themselves such a big hole it’d be miraculous if they make the tournament
It was always NBA-driven as Silver knows.
Creighton up 8 @ Xavier with 4 mins left. If they can hold on they look like a top 30 team
And they do. That win looks like it’ll hold up very nicely for M.
