College Basketball Open Discussion

I thought last season was a lot of fun from a storyline perspective at least in the B1G. But overall I think I’d say there’s a distinct lack of villains and we need more of those. Memphis probably will be too much of a clown show to be a proper heel? But maybe we just need more clown shows too.

The whole covid/winning percentage/hang many banners thing was a storyline, though not a national one.

If we are looking for actual villains and not just guys to throw casual accusations at, Dana Altman still has a job, and the Baylor AD hasn’t burned to the ground.

Not just current allegations of cheating, but a track record of cheating (and especially when you throw in Brown). I, too, prefer a college sports world where athletes are compensated, but it doesn’t change rules that were in place that Michigan was operating in accordance with.

The Wiseman case is a little more complicated if you’re familiar with it. Penny paid for moving expenses (yes, 11500 does seem pretty darn expensive for “moving” but my guess is it included housing and downpayments, etc.) while he was still an AAU coach and prior to becoming Memphis’s coach. In fact, had he not donated 1 million to his alma mater prior, he may not have even been considered a Memphis booster and the whole thing would’ve just been brushed under the rug.

The Emoni Bates thing is still debatable - no one really understands the extent or how the NLI will be monitored. So could it be enticement to play for a certain team - sure. There just isn’t a lot of direction that I’ve heard or proof that this is so. Ultimately, I’d be surprised if Michigan isn’t overwhelmingly POSITIVELY impacted by NLI by the time everything is said and done. I’ve been wrong before though.

As for Larry Brown…well, there were no reports that he was aware or behind the issues, just that he failed to report them timely. But yes, I do think he skirted college rules pretty frequently during his career. So if you want to hate Brown and Memphis by association, I can’t argue that.

That name feels like a blast from the past until I figured out that it was from last May. Been a long year. :man_facepalming:

Good possibility that they continue suck but continue getting top players. Penny has not shown that he can coach, but that program has a lot of money to throw around

Yep…best academics money can buy…

Also, they are in a mediocre conference so with their talent they can probably roll out of bed and win enough to make the tournament…or he is a bad coach.

As someone who recently moved across the state. 11K does not seem unreasonable for a whole home move

This is a reference to something right? It has to be. There’s no other explanation.

Has anyone ever seen Tom Crean and Tom Arnold in the same place at the same time?

Clearly this whole “wearing a belt” thing is overrated in his mind.

I think he at least sometimes wore belts. It’s just a really challenging situation for him, I guess. Rick Moranis was born to play the lead role in the biopic.

Looks like he is wearing a belt in all of the photos/gif that show his waist. Maybe he wore too big of pants and even with the belt he was getting droopy drawers that necessitated awkward sideline adjustments.

Crean definitely seems like someone who would be Jim Harbaugh’s brother-in-law. For that matter, how is John so normal and Jim so out there? I have questions.

I really don’t know what Dylan meant when he said the threads were getting off topic. This is all :fire:

Know we have had some discussions about Dakich previously, so thought this would be interesting: Dan Dakich will no longer call games for ESPN with new Outkick radio show announced

Dakich is a lightning rod for sure, but I rather enjoyed him calling games, especially when he was more Coach Dakich than Character Dakich. Hoping this will mean more Hummel carrying the B1G load and that would be a fair trade.

Agreed. Unfortunately we got so much more character than coach since his kid left Michigan. He was pretty upfront about that, though I forget where I read it. Anyhow, at this point won’t miss him.
