Not sure of the specifics but the MTEs were moved and teams dropped out. UCLA and Gonzaga were two teams that left and are now setting up this new event.
MTE doesn’t depend on location or anything like that. Just means a 4 or 8 team tournament that counts differently for scheduling.
MSG is hosting concerts all summer with 100% attendance. Every attendee will need to show proof of vaccination though. My hunch is that MSG found a bigger money maker to fill the seats since two west coast teams prolly aren’t a huge draw, albeit top nationally ranked teams.
Was doing some thinking about the number of roster spots we would have open for the 2022 class and what the roster composition would look like. It led me to a question that I hadn’t considered before. Is there any chance that we get any super seniors (ie the Eli Brooks situation) with other guys like Johns? Another way to phrase the question, are all guys who played under COVID eligible to be a super senior when the time comes?
As I understand it, everyone has an extra year of eligibility, but this is the only year when super seniors do not count against the 13 man limit.
I could absolutely see the staff inquiring of Brandon Johns about his interest in a fifth year. Assuming one or both of Hunter and Moussa leave, as is very likely, there’s tons of minutes and no real experience in the inside positions for '22-'23, and the best of our recruiting targets are unlikely to play college basketball. The portal is there, but step-in guards are usually more available than posts. Add to that the fact that we have no junior class (Bajema and Wagner are both gone), so Johns would be the only senior. I have no idea of whether Brandon would want to stay a fifth year, but I’d guess they’ll make it an option unless there’s less attrition and more signings than I expect, and I’d be all for that.
The way I understood it is that anyone using their super senior year at the school they were at during the 20-21 season will not count against the scholarship limit during that season. But I could be wrong. I haven’t gotten a clear answer and have heard both.
Glad to see coaches calling out that search firm that was was on Goodman’s candid coaches. That was an absolutely pathetic look for them and after listening to them you could tell why they miss so often.
Along with pound for pound LB Larry Brown as an assistant. LB is a terrific coach and thankful for his 2 years with the Pistons but he should have stayed with the Pistons but a carpetbagger will always find his territory.
