I don’t know if he had interest elsewhere. But really, they got incredibly lucky with how that turned out. Izzo turned out to be an upgrade from Heathcoate. They can’t assume the same will happen.

CBB just isn’t that zero sum and Izzo is clearly good at his job. But I could imagine a Michigan that keeps Fisher ending up w a lot more of those kids from Flint.

They were a good program but they pretty much got ALL the Michigan talent after UM fell off.

I believe that Izzo was in line for the CMU job when Heathcote convinced the AD to make him the HC in waiting.

Well the famous rollover with Cleaves in the back of that Ford explorer. The great counterfactual. But even if Michigan’s shame wasn’t Izzo’s great fortune, he’s still a hell of a coach and woulda had great success.

Big for the new staff…

Can’t recall how quickly Holtmann’s plan called for Carton going pro but if you had DJ as a 2 and done, cash your tickets!

Sticking to the Holtmann plan regardless of what you’ve actually done in college! Holtmann really sold him

The plan was for DJ to win B10 POY and then come back for a third year as a junior! Holtmann was really holding him back wow!

Was year 3 NPoY and a national title?

Looks like there are conflicting sources on the plan:

That’s hilarious. Mine came from the Des Moines Register. Yours looks like it’s from the Athletic?

Yep! I thought I rememberedThe Athletic article being the one to spawn the derision on this forum, haha

I’m dying that even in Holtmann’s wildest dreams, he had to limit himself to just a sweet 16 in year one.

Clicking around different stat pages as I listened to the pod discuss Tyson Walker and I discovered that former M target Carter Whitt had the highest turnover percentage in the entire country this season. Not just among P6 or high-majors or whatever, the whole country. Worse than any random guy at Idaho or Mississippi Valley State.

Wake Forest was, um, not good last season.

Add that to the pile of “you should never enroll early as a point guard”.
