If that’s the case, I’m actually surprised he hasn’t been poached sooner, though Arizona is an extremely strong program…maybe was just waiting out the right opportunity.

Have we confirmed the contract is for $2.88M? :joy:

Lloyd had a written guarantee in his contract that he was the heir apparent at Gonzaga. He turned down several opportunities, including high major ones over the years.

Seems like a strong hire for Cincy. He was being mentioned as a darkhorse for the UNC job.

Lloyd finally came to the conclusion that it is impossible to win the National Championship at Gonzaga.

Probably a good move for him (as long as UA isn’t dealing with major NCAA sanctions). He’s 46 and has been with the Zags two decades. Who knows how long Few will coach and would have kept him waiting? Worst-case, he fails at Arizona and Few hires him back.

On the topic of 6 fouls:

allowing 6 fouls in 40 minutes is not going to be pretty.

Imagine what MSU would have done to Kofi and Hunter is Izzo could use six per center!

Interesting little tidbit from that article: three free throws after a foul on a 3pt attempt was a proposed rule that the Big East rejected that same year. When did the NCAA adopt that? It seems like that rule’s been around as long as there has been a 3-point line. I’m surprised.

I mean Ayo literally had his face broken so who knows what would be next.

Every one of the foul proposals is nonsense. In general, I don’t mind the lane widening but if they do it, I think the line needs to move back (again).

5 star who was top 10 on 247 for 2022. Adding a player of his caliber on RosterCast on Torvik moves Tennessee from 27th to 9th for next year. Between Tennessee, Bama and Kentucky the top of the SEC looks stacked next year.

Tennessee will have an awesome team that gets booted way too early in March again.

Yeah, better there than to other programs where the coaches might be able to use them on teams that could beat Michigan deep in the tournament.

Given recent reclass performances I don’t think this guy is worth an 18-spot jump. Although the stinkers were mostly guards I guess

What does wing reclass performance look like against PG performance? I’d be interested in seeing a deep dive on that.

I know Barnes has been underwhelming in March, but I saw Tennessee fans on Reddit making these jokes on his commitment post so I decided to take a look again, and wow it’s bad.

At Tennessee he’s made 3 tournaments in 6 years (wouldn’t have made it last year even if COVID didn’t happen), and he’s lost in the 1st as a 5 seed, 2nd as a 3 seed, and Sweet Sixteen as a 2 seed. Combine that with his last Sweet Sixteen or better before that being an Elite Eight in 2008 at Texas and…woof.

The tournament is so fluky, yet it is generally accepted (and backed up by results; this is a guy that managed to squander Kevin Durant, one of the best players of this generation, bowing out in the second round) that Barnes is bad at it. What makes that happen?

Some of it is probably bad luck, but some of it is also the quality of his teams declining. Since 2008 he’s only had 4 teams lose 5 or less conference games (every other team lost 7 or more playing with 18 game conference schedules), and those 4 teams include 3 of his 2nd round exits and his only Sweet Sixteen. His teams on the whole just haven’t frequently been good enough to expect long runs, and the ones that have been good enough all disappointed.
