Good call, I was racking my brain as to who it was and couldn’t find it. I do remember seeing that Clark entered the portal. Clark being the guy for Baylor doesn’t really fit the overall point Goodman’s making, but whether there are 83 or 84 teams with transfers the overall point is still very obvious.
Is the 14 counting Moody? He’s entering the draft right?
Moody plays for Arkansas. But I was just going off what the Bama fans were saying, I don’t know the details of their scholarship situation
Dylan mentioned Shaka in the Seth Trimble thread and it made me wonder what kind of system he’s going to run at Marquette and how he’ll recruit relative to his Texas days.
Ha thanks, poor reading on my part.
So much this. There are no beat reporters because there’s no beat. There’s no local TV and no local daily newspaper not only in Ypsi but in Ann Arbor as well. No, MLive doesn’t count.
I don’t know where to find Eastern’s version of Fraser’s Pub or other fan hangouts, but I’m sure they exist in Kalamazoo or Mt. Pleasant. They sure as hell exist in Toledo.
Proposed rule changes include:
-
Widen lane to 16 ft from 12 (to match NBA courts)
-
Reset team fouls at the 10 minute mark of a half, and make double bonus at 5 team fouls. Would remove the one-and-one.
-
Give player 6 personal fouls instead of 5, with modifications. These could be:
-
More than 3 fouls in a half is a DQ (not sure if for the half or the game)
-
A player is given 2 fouls in the first half but 4 in the second is a DQ. There are a few more variations listed but these are the two big ones.
-
All held ball’s go to the defense.
-
No more than 2 TO’s for a team in the last 2 minutes of a game/OT.
-
Eliminate 10 second rule.
-
Allow for goaltending/basket interference reviews at any point in the game, but only if the official made a call (ie no calls can’t be reviewed).
-
Teams can decline FTs in the last two minutes and choose possession of the ball instead.
-
Eliminate offensive basket interference when the ball hits the ream (FIBA rule).
-
Allow players two steps after lifting pivot foot to make step backs, euro steps, etc. legal (seems like it’s already called this way but not in the rule book).
-
Eliminate 5 second closely guarded rule (honestly not sure what this is).
The 5 s closely guarded rule, I think, is the rule that states an offensive player in possession of the ball must make an offensive move within 5 s if they are closely guarded. Failure to do that is a dead ball turnover.
So a player can’t just hold the ball when they are closely guarded. You couldn’t give Tako Fall the ball and have him hold it out of reach to kill 30 seconds.
I have mixed reviews on this list. Some of them I like and would help flow…others just feel like too much.
That might have unintended consequences and cause a conservative coach to autobench after 1 early foul.
Not sure I like a single one of those proposed rule changes besides the travel one maybe.
I feel like the only time I have ever seen it called was it being called on Stauskas in 2014, when he was dribbling with a man up close on him. That was before they changed the rule so that dribbling exempts you
What are the chances all of these are passed and they take effect next season?
All? 0
Most? 0
That foul rule is insane. If you get 0 fouls in the 1H you can foul out in the 2H with 4 fouls. Just creates it’s own issues
Most of those stink. But I like the goaltend rule and anything limiting coach timeouts
I don’t have strong feelings on any of these other than “all held balls go to the defense” is a terrible rule
The majority of these rule changes are ridiculous. You’d think it’d be tough for the NCAA to imply that compensating players would hurt the game and then at the same time propose a list of garbage changes like this.
Me too. Especially since as soon as there are three hands on any ball lately it’s a “held ball”.
Things I might like:
- I think the travel or steps rule might be useful since it feels like aligning with the NBA is useful.
- The jump ball rule is interesting…though I do think just going with a literal jump ball would be better.
- Anything to prevent the constant parade of time-outs late in the game would be good. I also don’t like when a coach takes a timeout one possession before the TV timeout.
Things I don’t like:
- The foul stuff is too goofy and will change the game too much. I think you do something with a 6th foul for OT or something. Otherwise leave it alone and keep the 1-and-1.
- The 10-second and 5-second rules are fine…don’t mess with them. They get called about once a season so why bother changing them?
What’s even the point of the foul rule proposal? Like, what problem is this meant to solve?
Personally, I’m ambivalent on lane width, traveling, and basket interference rules, and I quite like the ability to decline free throws if fouled (because it shouldn’t be an advantage for a defense to violate the rules), but the others seem like pure garbage.
