Watching this Ohio state offense which is lauded for being so great… their action hasn’t created a single catch and shoot opportunity…everything creates these 1 on 1 matchups, dribble drives with heads down barreling into defenders heaving up shots while flailing elbows to create contact and foul shot opportunities…kinda hate that the officials seem to give them the benefit of the doubt on these calls instead of calling offensive fouls as they blatantly initiate the contact.
The rest of their offense comes off of offensive rebounding… it’s pretty ugly basketball frankly.
Given Illinois made us look pretty ugly as well but it sure is fun watching Kofi truck everyone Ohio throws at them.
Nova just took a lead 50-49 with under 3 to go. This is despite no Moore or Gillespie. Providence has scored 11 points this half after being up 18 at the half. Ed Cooley everybody.
Also super impressive win for Mike Boynton and OSU over WVU
Seriously, the only 2 teams that can leap Illinois for the 4th #1 seed are Ohio St and Iowa - if they were to win out.
None of the other contenders, in my opinion, will have the opportunity to boost a résumé to pass Illinois or Michigan. Those that did have the opportunity blew it today (or this week).
Bama has an outside chance, but only to pass Illinois. If Illinois were to lose today, as well as the first game of the BTT but Bama won the SEC tourney with a win over Arkansas and then one of Mizzou/Tennessee/Florida along the way they might be able to do it. But that’s it IMO.
Yeah, I guess that would be enough you’re right. But I think if Bama and Iowa were to each win out, Iowa would likely have the better argument. Not sure how committee would play that.
Overall, There really is such a significant drop off in quality when you get outside the big 10. In my opinion, there are six consistently great teams in the country right now, and four reside in the B1G. (At least you know what you’re getting from OSU and Iowa, although they are admittedly more vulnerable to any good jump shooting team).
Huge win by Drake over Missouri St. to get to the MVC finals tomorrow. Really entertaining game and this may punch Drake’s ticket to the tourney, even with a loss tomorrow.
With the winner taking the Pac-12 championship, USC just won @ UCLA 64-63 on a 3 with 1 second left. UCLA choked it down the stretch by missing FTs a few different times down the stretch to ice it.
Edit: I jumped the gun. Apparently USC needs Oregon to lose to OSU to win the title
Saint Louis was the 2nd team out on BracketMatrix today and lost in the A10 semifinals to the 1 seed St. Bonaventure. Not sure what decent teams would be left out that would help the resume. Maybe Belmont if they cant come back from their 18 point deficit in the OVC finals, or Arizona since they have a postseason ban.
I assume Duke getting throttled last night is a death blow for their tourney chances barring a conf tourney championship. Now we just need Sparty’s hopes to get dashed and all will be right with the world.
If Duke made the ACC title game I can see them getting in, ignoring beating BC they will have beaten Louisville/Florida St and possibly Virginia Tech or whoever won that quarters game.
