I understand that. Of course I wouldn’t trade seasons in that case, I’m just stating how fragile it is to evaluate the team itself by that success only. In an alternate universe Burke’s shot comes up short, JP doesn’t get his off in time, and we are dreaming of going to a single final four. It’s just so fickle and this team is so darn good I don’t want to already be talking about how disappointing a sweet sixteen run would be.

If I were a coach I would put teammates at the line when my guy is shooting FTs.

I’ve been reading up on him. He went to Ben Simmons’ high school back in Australia.

He actually made the all freshman team in the WCC his first year: Who is Keli Leaupepe? Five facts about the Loyola Marymount forward - Heat Check CBB

If I were a coach, I would instruct my team to advance the ball past half court within 10 seconds of inbounding the ball.

There was an equally glorious mullet last night for UC Riverside. Yes I watched a UC Riverside basketball game, on purpose

Leaupepe Is a giant killer, I can feel it

You’re absolutely right; the margins are incredibly small. Frankly, Michigan got a lot of luck in 2018 between getting a low-percentage shot to win and getting the entire field swept clear on our half of the bracket until the final. Of course, we also got the bad luck in 2014 to be in a region with an 8 seed in Kentucky that had a lot more talent than an 8 seed. And to have Walton’s shot against Oregon miss, etc.

The margins are incredibly small. I’ve seen enough NCAA tournament basketball to know that teams come into the tournament looking great all the time, and then they lose, sometimes early, sometimes looking nothing like the team that dominated the regular season.

It’s fickle and brutal but it is also reality. How is Michigan’s basketball fandom different if Sean Higgins doesn’t hit that shot against Illinois, or if they don’t call that foul on the floor in OT against Seton Hall? How is it different if Michigan lost to OSU in 92, or lost in OT to UCLA in 93?

It doesn’t bear thinking about. It’s terrifying. But it is the way the sport works. I’m a Michigan hockey fan, so I know all about fluky tournament losses.

If we lose early in the tourney, there will still be good memories of the season, but they won’t be quite as warm as they could have been. It’s not fair, but it’s real.

He has 3 fouls.

Thankfully, his mullet has none, though, so the combination still has 7 left.

These LMU turnovers are simply execrable. I bestow my strongest opprobrium upon them

So I think I’m the preeminent Gonzaga defender on Michigan Twitter now. Some of these takes I’m seeing…

You can’t blame people for becoming intoxicated by the mullet

I’ve run the numbers and, by my math, Hunter Dickinson is fifty thousand infinities better than Drew Timme.

LMU really doesn’t look good. Gonzaga should be crushing them right now.

Just shows where schedule strength has an effect. Yes, they have huge wins early in the year. But they can afford to come into a game like tonight and basically sleepwalk through the first half, and they still lead by 1 at the under 4. Michigan (also Baylor, for that matter) does not have that luxury. Michigan is playing trap games against talented teams that have tournament hopes. Gonzaga is… not.
