Buzz saw comes to mind…

I was in middle school during the Fab Five years - prime formative years for fandom. I was sure that UK was our main obstacle for the national title, since we’d beaten the other two Final Four teams (UNC and Kansas) in that Hawaii tournament earlier in the year. (To think that we actually beat all three of the other FF teams that year, and people still called the team underachievers…)

After beating UK I knew we were going to win it all. That final might still be might be my biggest heartbreak as a fan.

That was my sophomore year at Michigan. Brutal. Of course UNC was tough, as we barely beat them on a last second shot in Maui (I believe it was a Rose leaner). IMO, they also benefitted from playing the first game Saturday and having a relatively easy time against Kansas while we played the second game against a super tough Kentucky team and it went to OT. I thought when we went up 23-13 against UNC we might blow them out; then the wheels completely fell off.

This gave me a chuckle. I appreciate that he’s not blaming COVID or suddenly calling to cancel the season after months of silence on the matter though.

They said yesterday that this is the first time since 1911 that UK has started a season 1-6. I am wondering if Wildcats fans might be growing tired of Coach Cal? It’s 9 seasons since his one championship and their last Final Four was 2015. Nobody recruits like he does but his results haven’t matched up recently.

Lol, instead he’s blaming a not that hard schedule in which he lost to every mediocre team. Is rather he blame covid

In fairness, there is no real precedent for how to schedule during a global pandemic. I would be inclined to let basically all coaches off the hook on that this year.

I do think that given the makeup of this years team as well as the now-known strength of the B1G, the schedule Michigan put together makes a ton of sense.

Not me. Everyone’s going through the same issues schedule wise. He wouldn’t say crap.about his schedule if he was 6-1. They’re just not good and leave it at that.

Lol. Is “smack myself in the mouth” a callback to the John Chaney incident?!

“That’s why I was telling my kid to knock your f#%^*€¥ kid in the mouth!”

Oakland beats Detroit on the road for the 2nd day in a row. Oakland’s only 2 wins on the season are today and yesterday on the road vs Detroit, by 2 in OT on a shot with 5 seconds left and today by 3 on a shot with 1 second left

I’ve kind of grown to appreciate cal. I use to think he was grimy but I kind of respect him now. At least he isn’t fake about everything. It’s all pretty clear and out in the open. If you tolf me 10-15 yearS ago that Coach k would be the guy I had distaste for and I’d respect cal and the way he operates I wouldn’t have believed you.

Wow I forgot about that. I can’t remember what it was over though.

I’ve found that he is a lot easier to tolerate when his program is mediocre.

Mine too. So many memories of that night.

Nice job Sly, I had the chance to see JW play a few times and the kid is long and athletic. IMO usually the best athlete on the floor with WOW potential but sometimes gets lost on D. HIs first year you could see the talent but UB was so good he couldn’t get a ton of minutes. He will be fun to watch. Side Note: Boeheim said he won’t schedule UB again because of all the trash talking…he really hates playing any threat in the NONCON games.

Jim Boeheim remains a miserable human being.

Do you think a fully bubbled tournament in Indiana would be a pretty big advantage for the B1G? No crowds obviously but B1G teams are familiar with playing in several of those venues, in some cases every year.

No because they can schedule around that quite easily. If Michigan makes the tournament they can just be scheduled at Hinkle/Worthren/IUPUI or even Bankers Life. I don’t believe there is a player on the Michigan roster that has played there unless Smith/Brown have.
