In Morgantown too. West Virginia is Kenpom’s #5 team
Iowa State has decided to turn the ball over and not grab any defensive rebounds. Lets see how it works out for them.
West Virginia survives, leaving this post in my drafts for the remainder of time:
Remember, if you’re scoring at home, Iowa (who is overrated) beat Iowa State (who is terrible) by 30, who beat West Virginia (who is “insert negative adjective here: ____”), who played Gonzaga (who is head and shoulders the best team in the country) extremely tough and lost by 5.
I will save all the rest of my Iowa-related nonsense posts until tomorrow, when they will assuredly lose by 20+ to Gonzaga and my month of being the official UMhoops Hawkeye advocate will come to an end.
Wading real deep into the transitive property there
You just have to embrace that actually, every college basketball team sucks. So if you say “X team sucks” you cannot be proven wrong
Yeah, I’m not sure a cover at West Virginia really changes the fact that Iowa State is a horrible team.
Iam not sure most people realize just how horrendous the coaching in the pac 12 is. That conference every year easily has more or about the same amount of nba talent as the b1g yet the results are horrific. When mick Cronin is the guy you point to as the best x and o guy in your league, your league has major coaching issues. Hard to compare what Christopher looks like in that garbage asu system to what he would look like at um.
As I said, I think the roster, especially without Bagley, is deeply flawed. Without Bagley, there is 1 guy in the rotation who can make a three, and they’re completely without a rim runner as well. My impression from seeing Christopher’s tape in HS was that he was far from afraid of going to the rim, but if you look at his numbers so far, he’s simply often unable too since the lane is so packed and the defense doesn’t need to spread. Ball screens sort of lose their impact when you can ignore the screener. Torvik categorizes half his Fg attempts as “Far 2’s” (he’s actually hitting over half which is unsustainably good). But what that distribution tells me at least is that this team’s construction results in actively hindering Christopher from succeeding.
I mean they have 6 first round picks in 4 years and their peak is an 8 seed and a 2nd round NCAA loss in that time - only two winning records. Utter disaster.
Can someone tell Clark Kellogg that his name isn’t Luke Garza? How are you one of the main color guys on the sport’s flagship station and don’t even know the first name of the sport’s top player?
Why is Kentucky suddenly relying on two transfers from mediocre to bad teams?
Mintz was the fourth best player in a Creighton team than went .500 in the Big East.
Sarr is nothing special either.
Typing something to get by the filter.
The Sarr hype in the offseason was so funny. People were putting him on preseason AA teams
Really? Why??
I can’t decide who to root for in this UK-UNC game. It’d be funny to see the UK despair continue, and UNC being better makes Iowa look better which is good for the B1G I guess?
But also seeing UNC lose to UK and join them in despair would be hilarious.
Root for bad basketball. Neither of these teams are actually good and I flippin’ love it.
Honestly with the g league option and this Uk team being so bad you have to wonder if calipari will shift his recruiting philosophy.
I’m not sure - it’s not the first time Cal has drawn dead with this strategy - he missed the tournament with the Nerlens Noel/Alex Poythress/Archie Goodwin class and was quite mediocre with the Knox/SGA/Diallo/Washington group (despite them all being pros). He got three top 20 kids this year.

Looks like Kentucky is having some real real issues. Honestly, It seems like a majority of the teams that Michigan competes with for recruits are having a tough time right now.
Not that I’ve seen.
Fletcher threw a fit (literally, this isn’t me editorializing. Watch the end of the game) about playing time, yet he signed with Kentucky as a generic 4 star who was 6th in Kentucky’s class by the rankings and 30 spots below the next lowest guy. What the heck did he expect would happen???
Also, Michigan fans might remember Lance Ware as a PF who many projected to Michigan upon Juwan’s arrival until Kentucky swooped in. He ended up in the 30’s in the recruiting rankings (shot up after committing IIRC). Given the effort level that I’ve seen from him in 3 or 4 games I think we’re going to be much happier with 4 years of Terrance Williams. Not to be crass, but Ware does not look like he gives a single sh!t. This is despite similar results via the metric stats so far.
