The bag travels

I feel like there is some joke baked in here about language barriers preventing Miller from getting ratted out for the bag.

I picture it like in The Wolf of Wall Street. Sean Miller probably has cash strapped to him when he flies over, and only takes meetings with these recruits in the lobby of a Swiss bank.

10. David DeJulius

Old school : Michigan | New school : Cincinnati

It’s worth wondering whether DeJulius still would have transferred if he’d known that Josh Christopher was going to pick Arizona State over Michigan and that Isaiah Todd was going to turn pro instead of becoming a Wolverine. Nonetheless, the former four-star guard is headed to a spot where he should be able to shine. Cincinnati is losing a good bit of production from its 2019-20 roster. That opens the door for DeJulius, who averaged 7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists while hitting 36.1% of his 3-pointers off the bench for Michigan last season.

12. Chaundee Brown

Old school: Wake Forest | New school: Michigan

Brown is a physical wing who is efficient at scoring inside the arc and a solid rebounder. His case for immediate eligibility is the same as Sarr’s: Wake Forest underwent a coaching change from Danny Manning to Steve Forbes late in the coaching change cycle. Brown would be a welcome addition to the 2020-21 rotation at Michigan after the Wolverines missed out on Todd and Christopher late in the recruiting cycle.

The DeJulius speculation has been debunked here, but it’s interesting he’s rated quite so highly among non-grad transfers.

DJ Carton feels like the one that got away – if Howard would have had interest. I wonder if Eastern was considered.

Relieved that the second recruitment saga of McClung is over…

Wonder if Nimari Burnett cares about this. McClung might not get a waiver so it may not matter I suppose.

It’s an odd choice but probably a good choice for growing his game.

Even I could write a compelling appeal for a waiver.

Washington DC is now one of the epicenters of the pandemic. Even his coach was hospitalized with Covid. Not only that, but Georgetown travels to other problem areas as a member of the Big East; NYC and Chicago, for example. Aside from concerns for his own health, Max’s family wants to watch him play. They feel a lot more comfortable doing that in Lubbock and other Big 12 cities.

I’ll be joining this Twitch stream on Saturday afternoon (during Nova/Michigan rewatch).

Well that was fast, don’t ever remember a waiver getting approved this fast

Hey, it’s a compelling case even though we know it’s not the real reason McClung is leaving. NCAA doesn’t seem to apply a lot of common sense to their waiver decisions either. They really should be giving waivers more liberally this year though given the pandemic.

It’s Kentucky. That’s why

IIRC, Cal basically fully greenlights every waiver request and backs it to the NCAA.

Especially if it means Michigan gets both Eastern and Brown eligible. Should make Michigan a clear top 25 team although I’m not sure they are a true contender for a Natty unless Smith is as good as people hope he can be on offense and better than expected on defense and one or both of Brown/Eastern live up to their expectations as well

If next year’s team contends for a Natty, Juwan should get a statue outside of Crisler.

Everybody is going to get a waiver is my best guess.

What happens to the NCAA in the media if they turn down my McClung appeal? They wouldn’t dare want to find out. Other transfers will make weaker Covid cases and they won’t fight them either. They already are apprehensive about the potential risks of playing the season.

And they already approved a waiver for a case for purely basketball reasons that will likely be similar to others. When a high % of transfers are getting waivers and the criteria isn’t crystal clear, it’s going to look arbitrary, maybe even vindictive, when they turn someone down.

My best guess is that most players will get a waiver, especially if they have support from their original school.

I gotta think the two main ingredients for title contention are (1) Smith being a legit Big Ten player, as you say, but also (2) Wagner makes a HUGE jump, like to being a lottery pick or something. Eastern and Brown are interesting fits but more or less known properties. They raise the floor of this team considerably, but their best isn’t getting you to legit title contention.

I do think Wagner can become a 16-17 point per game scorer this year.

Getting Livers back is very important, too. The team’s ceiling is probably a lot higher with him playing.
