Oats has to be the top candidate for a theoretical open UK job but after that… Sean Miller? Chris Holtman?
I’d like Oats to stay where he is in case Juwan goes off to the NBA.
IMO Nate Oats is the best coach in the nation
Okay, I’ll play… what’s the sell there? Best in the nation based on…?
Boutros’ rankings are predicated on the belief that Michigan is #365, Wisconsin #364, and Illinois #363 and the rest flows from there.
recruiting + retention + development + S&C + NIL + philosophy + play design
Nate Oats isn’t coming to Michigan
Yeah, major bagman coach dating back to high school. He wouldn’t be considered either
I don’t see Michigan hiring a head coach who demands more than like $1.5 mil annually on their first deal
They’ll pay after that if the guy delivers
But they won’t pay big bucks out of “free sgency”
That’s why I feel he could do really well at UK.
I hear Chris Collins has the boys at NU on a heater
Do you find the way they play aesthetically pleasing? I generally find the sheer volume of isolation to be tough to watch as far as philosophy and play design.
NIL, recruiting are pretty school/job dependent factors.
Oats is a fine coach and he’s done a good job there but I just don’t know if it screams out best coach in the country good. In his three years … they’ve had one rebuilding year, one awesome year and one flop.
This group looks good and Brandon Miller was obviously a great get.
Also, do they retain anyone? Feels like it is up or out there.
People say different things. I’ve heard such, but it was pretty clear that many people believe that had Beilein quit a month earlier Oats would have come here and Michigan would have hired him. I personally have no idea.
it’s okay. Beilein’s was better
IMO, Oats would have taken the job but he wouldn’t have been offered. Don’t think he takes it now though
I’ve heard all the Andy Katz talk but hadn’t seen much from him directly or paid enough attention I guess. Yup, he is a huge Big Ten promoting tool, just like y’all said.
hot take: all 10 Big 12 teams will make the tournament
this might not be mathematically possible but I’m going for it anyway
I’m not sure that’s even possible because someone has to take a bunch of L’s on the chin.
But to take your hot take and analyze it which you did not ask…TTU is 0-3 in conference and has 0 decent wins OOC so they will have to pick it up a lot. Baylor is 0-3 but does have good OOC wins. WVU is 0-3 and their best win is @ Pitt. OU is 1-2 and has no good wins OOC. OSU is 1-2 and has a couple bubble-ish quality neutral site wins
So no I do not think 10 is likely for the Big 12
I just looked @tony’s bracket and he has WVU as a 5 seed which seems insane to me at first blush just based on looking at results but I guess they probably have good metrics which I did not look at. TTU is 2nd team out and OU is 8th out, OSU is last in. So that makes it look not that outlandish
Math has never stopped Boutros before! So many quality wins that I think a lot will get in even with weird resumes but 10 seems steep. Seems like WVU, TTU, Oklahoma, OSU are all somewhat vulnerable?
