I wish I could have put money on “a Dan Hurley blow up will cost UConn their undefeated record”.
The Hurley bros are .
Just watched UConn miss like eight in a row from deep.
Been a lot of Ed Cooley slander around here and I hate even having to ask this question, but did we make the wrong choice with Juwan over Cooley?
Absolutely not
The answer is no…but I would be lying if the thought didn’t cross my mind for a fleeting second.
slanderous
The fact it could even be considered is not where I thought things would be at this point.
Opening up a can I see
I mean sure but when I turned on FS1 for the game Providence was playing and that is what brought about the thought.

Gross, John. Do not like him saying that cause he has enough sway to change the average person’s mind. Besides just being wrong, if you really expect the NCAA to make any of his proposed ideas and the committee to actually put in a bunch more Mid Majors then LOL
Emoni Bates is now up to 39% from three on 8 attempts per game.
And Eastern Michigan up to 2 wins over Division I teams and impressively into last place nationally in assist rate.
I feel like their season is going exactly how I warned it might on the podcast with Brendan after the EMU game. Maybe they can turn it around in the MAC but there are some legitimately good teams in that league and EMU isn’t that.
In spite of Emoni, not because of Emoni.
At the very least we should all be able to step back right now and admit Bates is a good basketball player.
You don’t luck into 20.8 and 5.8 shooting 45% from the field and 39% from three.
EMU wouldn’t be any better if you removed Bates and placed any one of our bench players there.
He’s always been talented. The question is whether he can impact winning. This team is worse than last year’s EMU team at the same point even with him scoring 20 per night.
Not exactly sure how he parlays this into something to get him back on track. Not sure that what has happened this year is enough to say that he’s suddenly draftable or anything. Maybe put up big numbers and try to jump to a middle-ish high major and do the same thing?
The reason Emoni never made sense for Michigan basketball-wise (and the non-basketball was always the bigger issue) is that he’s a guy who is going to take 1 out of every 3 shots for a team. That’s who he is and that’s how he plays. Not sure how that would mesh on a team with Hunter Dickinson and Jett Howard.
EMU would be worse with Emoni than they are with him. Do you think EMU would be any better if day you swapped Bates and Tschetter? Come on, man. No.
And that might’ve been your concern. Plenty of people simply said Emoni was bad at basketball. That’s dumb.
As far as fit, I, for one, hate the idea of surrounding Hunter Dickinson with high volume high percentage 3pt shooters. Give me worse players as long as they don’t shoot often or well.
There’s really no need to re-hash this argument. The results to date solidify everything around the Bates discussion from the offseason.
- Off the court questions: He was arrested on a felony gun charge
- Elite shot maker: He’s making a ton of threes
- Doesn’t impact winning at the college level: EMU has 2 wins with Emoni.
Hopefully this can be the start of something for him at EMU but he still has a long ways to go I think to get back anywhere near the prospect he was supposed to be obviously.
