College Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

If a guard were to put up 38 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 assists while shooting 50% and plays in the A10 conference would you look at him as a potential up transfer on your team?

I’ll be stunned if they win 5 ACC games. They lost by 10 to a D2 team named Lenoir-Rhyne. They were tied with Chaminade with 6 minutes left in the game. And now they are losing to Bellarmine.

True, I think they can dig a few wins out of Georgia Tech/Pitt/FSU/Clemson/Boston College. You’re right though, probably closer to 3. They made a little run when I was typing that first part out and now they suck again.

Digging deeper, Bellarmine is the 2nd worst team on their schedule all year on kenpom so maybe they do get a doughnut in conference. In any case, they are bad.

fascinating play by the Bellarmine player to eat 5 whole seconds

I was trying to think if that was incredibly smart or incredibly stupid. The announcers not knowing the rules at all and one of them saying it went back to where he threw it from made me question if I knew anything about basketball.

  1. “would you look at him”? Would definitely look, maybe not sign.
  2. I kind of read the question as “if they averaged that line for the year” which seemed crazy to me bc that would probably put someone in the NBA.

I mean
isn’t that sort of a smart play? I don’t think the kid knew what he was doing in the moment and he would have been better off holding the ball to get fouled, but he did force them to take the ball the full length with less than a second instead of potentially having 5 seconds after FTs with a chance to win or tie.

yeah, i watched the clip you posted and heard the announcers say “it goes back to where he threw it out of bounds” and thought “what?! is this some specific rule against time-wasting??” thankfully i looked it up and no, all the rules of basketball still apply. he almost ate up the entire time!

I mean I don’t think it’s insane to think 23 year old Foster Loyer could absolutely help like half the teams in power conferences this year at a minimum. If nothing else he could do the Joey Baker role. Like, I wouldn’t give him a 35% usage like has at the moment, but lots of teams would benefit from him.

I have so many fun memories of that 48 hours in which Emmanuel Akot was the key to future success.

Kind of a cool idea behind this Pac-12/SWAC partnership, but don’t think I’d want to be one of the Pac-12 schools that plays a road game.

I really like this idea. Wash St @ Prairie View on Tuesday the 15th is the answer to your question of PAC road game.

Notwithstanding how much I like the idea, two fairly cynical observations/questions:

  1. does this mean free/cheaper buy games? That would be be undesirable.

  2. that press release’s commissioner quotes are a masterclass in corporate gobbledygook. Why? Who wants this? Ugh
