College Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

That’s a blow to the Gauchos. I was looking forward to seeing a couple of formerly highly recruited bigs dominating the Big West as twin towers.

wait, how could the huggins side “get their way”?

I think given that Bob is from Morgantown and went to WVU, there is a large number of people involved in the program who are “his guys” even if he’s not pulling their strings anymore. To be honest, I’d have assumed Mazulla was one of his guys.

oh, so just around who will be the next coach. i thought it was referring to preventing players transferring or something.

fascinating to me that Joe Mazzula has any pull. he wasn’t even a good player there and never coached there. how did he end up deeply tied to their NIL group?

and what does each group want exactly and why are they different?

Wasn’t he the starting point guard for their Final Four team shortly after Beilein left?

Kind of, but he still wasn’t good lol

Yes, hence my assumption he’s a Huggins guy

I assume Mazulla wants one of his guys (Calhoun?) and Huggins wants a current assistant? Hard to say.

Twitter seems to imply that Andy Kennedy is Huggins’ choice.

so did I…honestly, I can never understand what Trilly is saying

I assumed it was like a "who dictates the future of the program, Huggins’ guys, or the Mazzula group (which I didn’t know existed until today)

Still just odd to me a sitting NBA head coach is as deeply involved as he is. Maybe I’m jaded cause Michigan basketball has no way to have factions cause it barely has enough support for even one faction.

Hilarious that Andy Kennedy could twice get hired follow a Huggins resignation.

Feel like there are always factions in a coaching search and from what I remember previous Michigan searches were no different. Doesn’t mean that they all get their way, but people are vocal to support candidate X, etc.

The Juwan Howard search had a very vocal group of ex-players, etc. from Howard’s generation speaking out for Howard.

There were undoubtedly people with more Beilein ties pushing for assistants to get interviewed, etc.

I’m amused at portrating Joe Mazulla as distinct from “The Players Club”

But again, in my opinion Trilly hides the parts of his posts that arent’ buried in opacity in so much cute/cleverness that I can’t ever figure out what’s being said

It usually makes sense to to some so you just have to go through the comments for the translation

iirc there was a group of former players who wanted to see Lavall and groused about Juwan, Ant among them

Lol the denial here is real. His daughter says he was recycling cans. In Pittsburgh. “The media portrays him just drinking all night in the car.”

Nope, the breathalyzer did that when it popped a .210
