College Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

It’s all about upside. In three or four years, he’s gonna be unstoppable.

You’re not missing anything. Groupthink is a helluva drug.

I picked Hunter as POTY in the Big Ten but the argument would for TJD is that they are picked to be a better team and he’s a better defensive player (who is still really good on O).

Where in College? Because as it relates to the NBA, I’m from Missouri he got to show me.

Just fired their coach.

2 weeks before the season?

Reverse two-weeks’ notice.

And so it begins.

His advanced stats at the low-major level are kinda ugly.

This is the same Jose Perez who schools coveted after he transferred up from Gardner-Webb, then was, uh, bad at Marquette? Dropping down to a low major again should have been a sign

Board has to change to RUHoops if McConnell wins

Shut down forever if Wahl wins

The Caleb McConnell hype after one good tournament game is hilarious to me. Talk about being a prisoner of the moment

I don’t think Kevin Obanor has played SF in his entire life

Also Leaky Black is probably the funniest inclusion here amongst actual SFs. He had a sub 10%(!) USG last year. Less than 5 PPG LOL. He and Mcconnell are good defenders so I’m glad for them just in that they normally should not ever get consideration for such awards but I’m sure its exciting for them. But at least Mcconnell will have an actual offensive role so there’s upside in a way. Leaky Black will not score more than 6 PPG this year

Dang it, I was just going to laugh hysterically at Leaky Black’s inclusion!!

So Leaky Black gets in there because he has a funny name, is older, and plays for UNC? These lists are wild. Frankly, I never really understand why any of these awards post “watch lists” anyway. I guess you’re trying to draw attention to your award, for some reason, but who cares? If suddenly Joey Baker or Jett Howard have an amazing season are they ineligible because they weren’t on the early watch list? That’s how it works with some of the football awards and it is dumb…especially in a sport where so many freshmen have an impact.

They don’t serve any purpose. Not being on the watchlist now does not preclude winning the award

Same idea as a preseason All-Conference or All-American teams. And yeah, to draw attention to the awards.

Nope.

Given how steep attrition is at the top of college basketball with most players bolting after a truly good year, these are generally more “here is a list of people who may play SF”
