Really surprised that Arkansas is in on a transfer portal player.
How does the portal work with the draft combine? Is there another wave of portal entries when players don’t get the feedback they like from the NBA scouts?
The 60 day window is new this year which opened on March 13th.
So you have to enter the portal by May 13th, but guys can also be in the portal and the NBA Draft.
There’s definitely a post-combine wave of portal activity which is when guys like Nance and Mayer became hot commodities last year IIRC.
Quite the random nugget to drop in there about Tommy Lloyd
Wondering if any school will ever actually try to call out a tamper.
Probably hard when all of them are doing it too.
So…Kerr Kriisa replacement?
Yeah Kriisa leaving and now this would make sense.
It’s also not like the NBA where there is a formal rule, right?
All you have to do is call someone in a kid’s camp and tell them you are interested. That’s not a violation of any NCAA rule.
The fact that there are now collectives who can get involved in that, who have no affiliation to the NCAA, only makes it more complicated.
It’s basically just “tapping up” as they call it in European football.
Yeah it’s different in the NBA because there’s an employment contract
Yes but ncaa rules could easily affect coach’s behavior
There is a formal rule though:
NCAA rules prohibit any representative of another athletics department from making contact with a player at another school who has not entered the transfer portal, either directly or indirectly
Interesting, now what about contacting their uncle, AAU coach or handler? And what about collectives contacting people? And what about a scouting service playing middle man?
i feel like that would fall under the “indirectly” part of an intentionally broad/vague rule, but yeah
In another thread Dylan mentioned that tying NIL compensation to performance was clearly against the rules. While that makes sense…why would that version of a rule be actually enforced when these others aren’t?
Local kid, seems like a good fit.
Portal is absolutely wild now. If you’re a coach it doesn’t matter how good your team is or how much playing time you give someone or how much freedom you give them, you’re never safe from players leaving your team
Hate it. Hate it.
