Who is Cockburn guarding there? He can’t guard any of those players. That’s the issue I see if you have Banchero at the 5. If it’s Timme, then Cockburn would be fine.
I watched the homestretch of the Cincy-Memphis game, and yes, DeJulius was good. He even played the facilitator role on a few possessions. Cincy clearly wanted the ball in his hands for the game’s most important possessions. He made a great step-back move to clear himself for an open 3 that would likely have been the game-winner, but unfortunately, he missed the shot. It’s nice to see him playing a lot and playing well.
I watched a few minutes of one of their recent games and he started the game on fire. Our friend Robbie Hummel commented that it was a great start because he was coming off of several games where he had been struggling. DDJ is definitely streaky and has more of a 2-guard mentality than a PG, but good to see he’s found a home and some success.
Bajema is the real surprise given that he’d been struggling to even crack the rotation. Good for him. Cue this board to start making posts about how he’d be the ideal fit on our current team given that he’s SG/SF sized and hitting jump shots. /s
If I had to choose one or the other, even though Bajema is the right size we need, I think I’d still go DDJ. Has his flaws for sure, but some were pining for the Geo Baker step-back experience and DDJ would be a poor man’s version of that. We have talked about having somebody to create their own shot and DDJ rightly or wrongly would be able to do just that.
I watched most of both games because what else is there to watch on a Sunday other than bad college basketball games. I like to root for kids who used to be at UM and obviously pay attention to them.
While it’s nice to see them have some good moments, I didn’t really see anything that either of them did in either game and think “wow, that’s what Michigan is missing”. Or wow that could really help Michigan’s roster right now.
San Diego State blew out Colorado State over the weekend and is up to 40th in the NET. If they make the top 30, that turns from a Q2 to a Q1 win for Michigan.
Bajema was my guy @ U of M. He was born in my hometown of Grand Haven,Mi. By the way GHHS is 6-0 so far this year and the favorite to win the famed OK Red conference this year. Go Bucs Go!
Auburn might be the best team I have seen this year. They go 11 deep, they’re quick, they can rebound, they can block shots, they can hit shots. They also can make a combo of Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler(didn’t play well tonight) work.
Their quality, athletic size impressed me (again, with Kessler not even being a factor). I didn’t like some of their guard play (defensive discipline and shot selection), but they have a ton of athleticism as a team and they do look really good. I still prefer Baylor, but it’s close.
