They played a Thursday game in California, flew to DC on Friday to play us Saturday night, flew back west to Oklahoma AFTER our game Saturday night arriving in Oklahoma at 3:00 AM to play OK State on Sunday, then to Lubbock to play Texas Tech today. BRUTAL!
Iām not going to look up whether or not this is true but it sure feels like a lot of teams are losing buy games. The bottom of the major conferences seem particularly weak. Missouri joined the club last night and while Penn State was on the road at UMass, losing by 25 and taking a 45 point transitive loss to Yale makes them an honorary member.
Bancheroās is āaiding and abetting DWIā for those who donāt feel like clicking, with Kās grandson getting the actual DWI at exactly 0.08. Iām not really sure how Banchero could have legal culpability for literally just being in the car unless there was some kind of āHey, Iām a future NBA player, drive me home. I donāt care that youāre drunk too.ā situation.
Not stopping a DUI when you easily could have done so (like when youāre the passenger) seems like a reasonable thing to have legal consequences for. And if he was a passenger and he was aware he was drunk. Seems pretty cut and dry
Sounds like the cop was a Tar Heel fan to me.
Useful guideline: WWJJD?
Aiding and abetting a DWI in North Carolina can be charged when a person knowingly turns over their own vehicle to someone who is impaired or fails to prevent an impaired person from getting behind the wheel.
From the article. It was Bancheroās car.
Yep, I was almost charged with this once in college for letting someone drive my car home at was over the legal limit. I had no idea it was a thing at the time.
Not a good idea to let a drunk drive your car even if it wasnāt illegal,
Well where the heck were you in 2004 to let 21 year old me know that?!
In any case, respect due to those cops for doing their jobs, unless eddiebenās, very plausible theory is correct.
Big for Loyola. One step closer to getting to the Big East.
Getting out while the getting is good before their hoops program falls back to earth
Idk, Iām all about Duke schadenfreude, but he was at exactly the (il)legal limit. I donāt think itās fair to charge Banchero when he could have reasonably thought (and was probably told) that the other kid was fine to drive.
Oregon getting shredded by BYU
They were both underage. Their limits for impaired driving are generally much lower. In Michigan itās .02. In some states itās even less.
Hmmm, I didnāt know that, but I donāt think it changes anything. Because I bet Banchero didnāt know that either. In which case, I think the same premise applies: Banchero reasonably believed the grandkid could safely and legally drive his car. Donāt get me wrong, in my mind, drunk driving is one of the most heinous crimes around, but Iām reluctant to make a criminal out of somebody - ignoring that Duke is probably going to take care of this for Banchero - for making the smart decision not to drive when drunk and relying on a friend to drive when he probably reasonably thought the friend was safe to legally drive.
Notice I think the grandkid deserves the DWI (he was willing to put himself and others at risk by getting close to the legal limit and still driving) and if Banchero realized the grandkid was drunk and just wanted to avoid the DWI for himself, then Iād charge him too. But absent evidence to the contrary, Iām reluctant to call Bancheroās actions criminal.
Is Oregon the host of the Phil Knight invitational? Because BYU is being a rude guest.
