Am I squinting too much to read between the lines and think that Zeb Jackson is ready to log significant minutes as a freshman?
agreed. and maybe they all stayed on last year in part because of timing, a lot of departures of other players to the nba creating opportunities, and the genuine unknown of juwanās vision as a HC. either way we will start to learn a lot more about the latter with roster spots for him to fill
didnāt Tim Mccormick say he saw Zebs role as more of a 2 this year? (insert laval lucas perry reference)
My mistake clearly was overestimating Nunezā shooting percentage. Thinking it over 30% should have sounded too high.
May have something to do with how late in the game Coach B left us in the lurch.
I really donāt understand how this transfer has anyone panicking at all? The transfer itself came as a shock but I donāt think anyone can be too surprised that Bajama is transferring.
I really donāt think this transfer really has that much of an impact on the team. I guess Iām just really confused as to why people are panicking more now when they were a day ago when this really doesnāt change a whole lot.
Wow the roster is really thin now. Tons of opportunity for Nunez. So much playing time is available for him. Hope he improves his defense, shooting and ball handling. Can he do it? He sure didnāt show he had even one good basketball skill last year.
For my part, even if he wasnāt a guarantee to fill an area of glaring need - or even likely to fill that need - it was certainly conceivable that he could. He has a great looking stroke, has great height, has a pretty good handle, and was coveted by other high major programs for good reasons. He was someone you could put some hope on. I donāt see many other conceivable options on what is now a jarringly thin roster.
There is one big hole on this roster but it isnāt jarringly thin. This team can still easily be 9 deep. Also itās not like there isnāt a chance we still add another player or two.
Because they have 3 guards on the roster. 3. Thatās it. Rather than having options, it is now imperative that Mike Smith be a Big Ten quality starter for sure and that Zeb Jackson be a reliable contributor from day 1. Neither were guarantees. The more options you have competing for spots, the more likely it is that the people who play, earned it rather than got PT by default due to lack of options.
This could hurt the upcoming season. But Juwan has been recruiting hard at Coleās position for instant impact guys. Thatās probably not too intriguing when Cole was looking at his Junior/Senior season outlooks.
Bottom line is Juwan will need to start landing a couple of these top recruits so that we are competitive beyond next season. Because those young guys in ā21-ā22 are going to be heavily relied upon (transfers obviously the other route)
Cole was absolutely no guarantee either. Plus if you were counting Cole as guard depth you have to count Franz as guard depth too.
Problem with that is if you count Franz as guard depth, then it just becomes another roster position that is scarily thin. The only natural 3s on the roster are Franz and Nunez. Thatās it. I like TWill, but I donāt think heās quick enough to defend or a good enough ball handler to play the 3 at least as a freshman.
Sure, but a shot is better than nothing.
Franz playing a ton at the two is not a great option. Itās gonna hurt Liversā game as well, and heās going to get absolutely destroyed there defensively. This is gonna be a sub-100 team defensively if Wagner is out there playing 30 minutes a game at 2. Sadly seems like thatās whatās going to happen.
If Livers doesnāt come back, then Iām right with you on all this. Feels misplaced if weāre assuming heāll be back.
Why would Franz playing at the two hurt Livers? I donāt think itās too far off base to predict Franz moves into a good secondary creator role.
Livers canāt dribble or defend true wings. Putting him in situations whereāll he have to do more of that (at the 3 spot) will make him play worse.
When Livers was healthy at the end of the 18/19 season and beginning of the 19/20 season he had no problem defending true wings. His main problem was smaller guards. Not saying he was above average vs 3s but he was never really below average.
This! Thinness spread over multiple spots is exactly what a thin roster looks like.
Also not sure if people are aware that it looks like weāre screwed after all as the one time transfer waiver looks dead.
I really believe Bajema is going to be a great player. I may be mocked for this opinion, but I hold to it.
Heād be a great fit at Gonzaga.
This one hurts. That shooting stroke is a thing of beauty.
