So I wake up and Michigan basketball is dead? Wtf?
Brian Ellerbe has had plenty of time to iron things out. We’ll see if Warde is thinking along the same lines.
I don’t know guys, this one’s a killer. Manuel will be tested.
Good luck to JB and thanks for bringing this program back to life. He’s certainly earned recognition as one of the best collegiate coaches in Michigan Hoops history. Someone said in an earlier thread he loves the rebuild and I would agree. I think the next coach will be a high profile individual and top quality. The program is in great shape and the brand has never been stronger. JB is all about culture so it will be interesting to see if that changes. He never over reached for a player that would damage the school’s reputation or his own…let’s see how that translates in Cleveland. Looking for ward to seeing how that translates in Michigan!
GO BLUE!
Bad dream. Go back to bed.
JB obviously love rebuilding, so I assume that’s part of what made it so intriguing for him. He also loves a challenge. I would be very very pleasantly surprised if he made it through his entire 5 year contract.
So JB wanted to get out of dodge ASAP and all the stuff about his grandkids was bullshit?
This decision is so weird because it basically destroys all perceptions we had
Come on man. It’s totally in line with Beilein’s personality. He gets actual vacations now that he can spend time with his grand kids.
I knew scheduling an early Monday morning eye doctor visit was taking a risk, and they said I am fine. But I swear, I am losing my vision!
“Beilein has run model programs in college, free of scandal and impropriety. In recent years, he’s become increasingly frustrated with the nature of college basketball recruiting and the retention of top players”
This one stings.
Thank you Coach Beilein for the terrific run. At times, I was critical of certain strategies and recruiting philosophies, but Beilein ultimately made it all work, and was successful with class and ethics.
Congrats to Coach B making his way to the top of the ladder.
I’ll definitely miss him as our coach, and this will be a very difficult and tenuous replacement for the program. Coach B set the bar very high, so this is a very tough act to follow for his successor.
Wonder if he will start each practice with pivoting drills still…
Yes, he will.
I say give Jay Wright a look. Let him say ‘no’.
I think you nailed it here! He just won’t break or even bend the rules and the NCAA is a freaking joke. They need the FBI to cover their own tracks!
He’ll laugh and say “Hell no.”
White privilege
I think this likely played a bigger role than will be discussed.
Without a doubt. Plus the guy wants to try his skills at coaching at the highest level. Can’t blame him for taking his shot.
This hire makes total sense for the Cavs – Beilein is highly regarded (obviously) for his player development and the Cavs need to acquire as much young talent as possible moving forward. They basically only have one young asset currently – Sexton – and I guess to a much lesser extent, Cedi Osman.
For Beilein, he is 66 and this seems like a very interesting job to take if he had his sights set on coaching in the league. This is a full-on rebuild and Cleveland has one of the bleakest, if not the bleakest, outlooks moving forward. Going to be hard to really succeed for a while. He has never been afraid of those rebuilds, though…
