Cleveland Cavaliers hire John Beilein

It’s tough to wrap my mind around JB coaching in Cleveland for a Spartan owner . . . ugh.

The guy is the biggest moron owner in the NBA. Come on Beilein. As smart as Beilein is, I just think this is a massive mistake. Don’t think it ends well and just amazes me that he could leave so easily. I think some of the recruiting strain had to do with his own limitations he enforced. Example: (being way too particular for kids to unpack their bags when most don’t).

Oh man. Long time lurker here and have been following the forum closely since Beilein left for the Cavs.

I think so many of us formed a personal connection with Beilein even though we don’t personally know him or have spoken to him. I have watched him resurrect Michigan basketball from being a bottom dweller to a tier-1 program and do it with utmost class.

It’s almost like he has become part of your life/family without you or him realizing it!

I do have to quote Nick Stauskas here. At the end of the day, “it’s just hoops.”

Cavs are bad no matter who the coach is, losing 50-60 games a year isn’t going to fun.

Let’s have a dumb-off between Gilbert, Dolan, and Gores.

does anyone have any updates on any interviews happening or any interests?

I just googled NBA attendance for 2019 and see all teams averaged more than 15 thousand, even the shit team Cavaliers. Why would anybody pay good money to watch any team like the Cavaliers? I wouldn’t pay $20 to watch a top NBA team. I hate the NBA. No interest in it whatsoever.

Should always be skeptical of average attendance numbers.

But to address your other point, maybe people just like it? I’d rather watch a college game than an NBA game. But the NBA has the best basketball players in the world. And they’re all in major metropolitan areas. There’s certainly some appeal in that to the average basketball fan

Cool, I guess.

I know how you feel, I felt the same way 5 years ago. But when UM started putting kids into the league, it changed for me. Now I can see why JB is at the CAVS. They run the same sets, shoot three’s and have great ball movement. The Warriors are fun to watch, the league is changing…ball movement and shooters make a difference!

Same. Awful product.

On the other hand, I feel a little less awful when I shell out $70 if I know the player is fairly compensated.

I used to be anti-NBA, but the skill level is obscene. Totally different game to watch. Pros and college is great in their own different ways.

I always say even people who say they hate the NBA should go see a game in close up seats (preferably with at least one good team) because the athletes are just absurd. You don’t get the full thing from TV at all.

Agreed. Saw the warriors play the Celtics earlier this year. Was incredible to see Kevin Durant in real life

Or I could follow North Carolina.

Yeah, you definitely should. Winning titles is quite fun.

Agreed. If you watched intently enough too, you can absolutely see the offensive sets teams run as well. Not as slow-developing as the collegiate game, but that in itself is another reason for the fun.

Another thing is people often mistake the process of passing the ball around the perimeter for 20 seconds in the college game as “good ball movement” even when there’s no movement going on inside and the passing doesn’t accomplish anything.
