CBS Q & A with JB

I can't help but have high expectations from Irvin this year. He's just too talented and our coaches are just too good. My hopes may be dashed but I just think he's going to be a sleeper this year in the Big 10.

I also hope Walton can add more to the offensive end this year beyond catch and shoot opportunities.

Walton showed way more capability to do what you’re expecting from Irvin than Irvin did last season.

At the NCAA level, you really don’t need more than two shot creators. By the looks of it, that will be Walton and LeVert. As long as one of those two are on the court, Michigan will be able to get shots. We don’t need Irvin to be a slasher this season. I think he’ll help Michigan most by stretching the floor and shooting a lot of 3s.

Hail - totally agree, that was my exact point - Irvin doesn’t need to be a creator this year. But unless we pick up Dozier or Brown, we will definitely need Zak to take a big step forward in that area next year.

JBlair - I think you are selling Walton short. The guy excels in transition and has ability to finish over taller defenders off PnR. Not to mention he's probably the best rebounder in the country at his size. Add in the fact that he's an above average on ball defender.

I was thinking more half-court but yes, he’s fast as snot in transition.

I’d just like to see more versatility out of his offensive game shown this year.
I thought he could have attacked more out of the pick and roll.

I hope so. I think Irvin will benefit from bulk minutes though. The way he plays, I think he’ll get a better feel for the game being in the flow. He can shoot it - I think he shot 40% or better from outside last year…and the nets are still burning in Italy.
