It's hipster of you to disagree just for the sake of disagreeing.
No, I disagreed because I disagreed. Not for the sake of disagreeing. Oh heaven forbid I enter into a conversation that was yet another pissing match between MattD and someone who doesn’t like what he has to say, then have the audacity to disagree with the anti-Matt side…
As for the Lamb and Levert comparison, you asked for MattD to point out the significant differences between the two. I know I’m not MattD, but I responded to your inquiry with 2 significant differences. Athletic explosion and a mid-range shot. Now to your other points, they ARE very similar. I think Levert has a much better handle than Lamb though.
Your initial post implied that the only similarity you saw between the two was that they are both skinny. Now, you are saying they ARE very similar. Please make up your mind.
If you agree that they ARE very similar, then you can understand why I think a healthy LeVert is still a 1st round lock. Lamb, a very similar player, was a lottery pick in a loaded draft.
Let me break this down for you… when I say based on your points (aka your response and my consideration of your response) I agree with you. That means I paid attention to what you said, considered it, and decided to change my stance. I thought the point of a discussion was to influence opinion not doggedly maintain your stance without ever entertaining an alternative point of view. Not every counterpoint is total disagreement. Sometimes it’s just a different point of view.
As far as Caris being a first rounder, I tend to agree with you and have from the beginning. I’m not sure he’s a lock, but I believe he has a pretty good shot. In fact I think he’s the kind of player a better team that is drafting later would grab in a heartbeat.
It would be interesting to see how Levert would do this year with a healthy Walton, Irvin after a full season of being the man, Doyle and Dawkins after getting good minutes, and adding Wagner/Robinson as shooters.
The support staff looks a lot better than the start of 2014-2015 season offered.
I would think that could give him the chance to feel more comfortable in his game.
He finished at the rim very well in 2013-2014 before his injury. Go back and watch the Duke game, for example, or the MSU game at home. This year he seemed hesitant and kept trying to shoot reverse layups instead of dunking it. He’s got plenty of hops, so that’s not the issue, he just isn’t going up aggressively. I suspect the foot wasn’t quite right all year. To me, it’s something that can easily be fixed. Also, as far as pulling up off the dribble, I guess we’re all forgetting the Nova game, where he made several extremely tough, essentially one-on-one shots at the end of the game to give us the lead.
I’m not saying he is great off the dribble, yet, but he’s hardly just a catch and shoot player. He’s also pretty good at driving and finding open guys, as he has had several games with nice assist totals. If he was just a catch and shoot player, he wouldn’t get assists like that. I think he’s a first round talent for sure, but as it has been mentioned, he hasn’t played for months and he can’t do anything to impress scouts right now, while others are moving up. If he leaves this year, I imagine he goes anywhere from 25-35. If he stays, and has a strong senior year, I think he solidifies a first round spot for sure and goes in the 17-25 range.
I think it’s clear that LeVert offers more than just a catch a shoot player. He lead the team is scoring, assists, steals, rebounds, and blocks. Someone calling him just a catch and shoot player is trolling or has an agenda.

You can lead a team in all those areas and not be good at any of those areas if all of your teammates are worse in those areas. Not to be Non-P.C., but that’s a tallest midget situation.

Agree. That’s the equivalent of Devin Gardner leading UM in total yards

I didn’t watch Lamb in college much, but I do know that he isn’t a very good player in the NBA. That being said, that may be the reason that Caris isn’t lottery pick worthy…a similar player was taken in Lamb, and has struggled 3 years into it. Not saying that it is the absolute reason, but could certainly be a factor.
Just curious, Would it be of your opinion that Caris wont amount to be half the player Nik Stauskas will be as a pro? And if so, what skill do you think Stauskas has thats better than LeVert.

Some of the Dumbest s**t I've ever read. Say the injury set him back, but to say he doesn't have the skillset Is Super Hate Supreme. Go to the Corner and Take this Pointy hat with you. How in the hell was he ever projected as a Lottery pick if he doesn't have the Skillset??
Levert down to #29 on Basketball Insiders. Starting to think there is a realistic chance he comes back, the kid just doesn't have an NBA skillset that warrants a first round pick in my opinion.
LeVert is basically a Jeremy Lamb clone and Lamb went 12th overall in a pretty loaded draft class. Hard to see a healthy LeVert dropping to the 2nd round.
GRIII had/has all the skills. May not have been extraordinary with them but he has them and they will prevail eventually. Again stop with the hate. You are not a NBA player without skills sir!
