@ReegsShannon said Juwan’s affinity for Big Country will be this team’s downfall and i agree. How can you watch these BJJ minutes and not see that Austin should be getting ~5 min per game to spell Hunter against opposing lumbering 5s. Otherwise, BJJ gives you a fresh look and a counter to 5-out. And BJJ doesnt bring anything at 4 the anyway
I’d still take a bullet for Juwan tho, nobody’s perfect
I think Juwan’s love of Davis does hurt at times, but Johns does not always look this ready to go. Probably should have given him more chances at the 5 because he needs reps, but it’s not like Johns has always earned more looks.
Davis does get more leash despite defensive mistakes, though.
To be fair this is the first time Johns has looked like he could significantly contribute in the last few months. During that time Davis has given us some real quality minutes.
BJJ had really been struggling shooting the ball, and so I think that was probably part of the rationale for staying with Davis, who despite being a liability defensively, has been quite consistent in what he gives for this team.
Obviously happy he made the right choice though. Much prefer this compared to playing BJJ at the four and Davis at the five at the same time.
The key for offense & defense is scheme & players playing to the scheme. Man defense, with the proper personnel, is where we’re elite. Our offense is predicated on the pass to determine player movement. The ball has got to move freely for our offense to function efficiently, otherwise guys are just standing around.
It did though, right? Johns coming in for Davis finally shut down the Hamilton pick and pop 3s. Don’t think Maryland even got another one off out of the Ayala/Hamilton ball screen with Johns in at the 5.
Yeah I don’t think we should be dragging Davis too much. He was massive for us by getting 5? O-Reb’s. Not really his choice to be a bit of a pylon on defense.
The thing with Brandon is that even given extended minutes he still doesn’t have these bursts often. When he does I think this team is nearly unbeatable. But there’s still frequently shifts he looks lost on.
