BTN All-Decade Team

Jordan Murphy?? As one of the top 15 players in the B1G in the decade??

This list sucks

I’d rank that Draymond, Kaminsky, Turner, Burke, Valentine

Sam Dekker maybe?

FWIW… this is the panel that voted:

D’Angelo Russel is on the 3rd team…

He was really really good his one year. But him being on the same level as Jordan Murphy doesn’t make sense.

What about Stauskis?

If Aaron Craft made it (and D’Angelo Russell), I don’t see much room for Stauskas

Carsen Edwards maybe?

So based on that third team, left are:

Burke
Winston
Valentine
Kaminsky
Green
Sullinger
Oladipo
Zeller
Edwards

I’m pretty confident in those 9. I had Turner on my original one, I’m not sure how they will handle him as his last season was 09-10. I think they may omit him and say he doesn’t really fit into the decade. I think I’ll guess Happ got the last spot. Also possible: Moore, Hummel, Bates-Diop?

Given that Craft couldn’t shoot worth a lick, I wonder if we’ll all end up thinking that X was worthier in that spot. He was a really fun–very dogged player–but I think that he arguably had more. . . sentimental allure than chops. Still, I respect the judge list and respect Craft.

If Zeller is in the discussion, it gets harder to say Mo shouldn’t be. I may be personally biased as I found Zeller extraordinarily annoying for his astonishing ability to draw fouls on bullshit moves. He admittedly has a much more well-rounded game, as well. But Mo did more in the conference tourney and made an FF.

I say this more to suggest that Zeller does not belong than to suggest that Mo does.

The conference tourney should be incredibly low on the criteria of this exercise. Team performance in the NCAA tournament should only be a bit above that (I’d use it more as a tie breaker).

Zeller was 2nd Team All B1G his freshman year, and then a consensus AA and 1st Team All B1G his 2nd year. There’s not really much of a debate as far as their accolades or stats go.

I agree I much prefer Mo’s game to Cody’s though.

I don’t know the criteria or if the voters were given any, but given it’s a conference ranking, there’s an argument for valuing the conference tourney higher and the big dance lower.

Only if you are separating conference stats from OOC stats.

I know Michigan fans became the world’s biggest CT supporters in recent years, but Zeller’s team outright won probably the most competitive B1G in the decade. That’s a bigger conference accomplishment than Mo winning two CTs

It’s a huge accomplishment; that was a monster year. Oladipo was that team’s best player.

@umhoops This would be a pretty good podcast idea for you and BQ

Carsen Edwards and Ethan Happ on the 2nd team.

Harder to argue against Happ than Edwards.
