Big Ten Basketball 2022-23 Discussion

A lot depends on how good Llewellyn is going to be. If he is as good as I think he will be, I’d put Michigan’s trio on top. Illinois, Rutgers and Iowa are more proven, but Dickinson is just plain better than anyone that they have to offer.

Undersized more athletic version of Ethan Happ

what does that look like. Ethan Happ’s freshman year he had a much higher usage than Tyler Wahl has ever had. And he could pass and had size. Probably could dribble better than Wahl too. had more than one post move. I could go on. I have 0 idea what Tyler Wahl can do to be an offensive focal point

Poor man’s Ethan Happ?

Happ much better passer late in his career but he had a young Trice as PG. Wahl might not be as high of usage with Hepburn. Happ was a 5th year guy as well and Wahl played as a frosh. You might get annoying 5th year Wahl in 23-24.

Yeah that’s definitely happening

On the bright side, Wahl’s career 63% from the FT line is an improvement from Happ!

Oh yeah, unless Wahl is really intent on beginning his post-basketball career, he’ll definitely be taking a COVID year.

Yeah, Happ was one of the weirdest great players in recent years. Literally could not shoot at all. Undersized. Not athletic. And completely dominant in the paint and a solid defender and passer.

I love this so much. Typical BIG10.

So this is kind of shallow but lots of years of college hoops watching tells me two things: first, the third best player in a team rarely wins or loses a game, and two, dominant bigs and guards are more valuable than dominant wings.

And honest to god when you look at that list the only team w a PG and a big that have any credibility is Rutgers. Yay Knights! Although im not sure either of their guys will qualify as dominant (as bullish as I am on Cliff — best BIG NBA prospect maybe?).

Illinois and Iowa seem like they have the most B+ BIG10 players, so I can see why you put them up there, but they don’t really have guys you would ordinarily think of as potential stars. But 10 guys are gonna make All Big Ten even so … what a year…

(I’m just in sell mode on IU … It’s gonna be a rare day when they have good play at the same time from TJD and XJ - mercurial barely starts the description!)

Have they reported when Michigan’s secret/not-so -secret scrimmage is? I remember seeing a thread here that it was against Tennessee or Florida State?

Against Florida State. Don’t know the date

As a sophomore Draymond and Xavier TIllman started for a final four team. The team Valentine started on as a sophomore only went to the E8 though so I see his point there!

I think people get too hung up on starting etc… Draymond did only start 3 games his sophmore year though. Draymond was tied in MPG with Chris Allen, went really 7 deep that team Lucious and Nix still played all year just giving 7mpg.
